COLORADO Swimming’s team dominated the Western Zone Age Group Long Course Championships Aug. 7-10 in Roseville, California, and swam away with the team title. They scored 4,497.5 points to runner-up Pacific’s 2,518. Oregon finished in third with 1,969 points, followed closely by Utah (1,494) and San Diego-Imperial (1,380).

The 11-12 portion of the record book needed to be rewritten quite a bit at the end of the meet. Utah’s Lucas Hess provided the most damage with his three record-setting swims in the 200 and 400 IM (2:18.41 and 5:02.98), plus the 100 fly (1:02.30). Colorado’s Amelie Lessing set the girl’s 400 IM mark at 5:20.14.

In two other events, the 11-12 boy and girl champion both posted new Western Zone standards. Pacific’s Audrey Chin completed the 200 back in 2:31.79 and Bergen Davis lowered the boys’ record to 2:24.31. Audrey Lukawski, representing Pacific, cruised to a 2:50.28 in the 200 breast, with Colorado’s Baylor Cobb breaking the boys 200 breast record with his 2:42.98. New Mexico’s Chrysten Pacheco set the 11-12 girls 200 fly record at 2:31.76.

Oregon Swimming’s 11-12 boys team set three relay standards. The 200 free team of Luke Thornbrue, Van Mathias, Trent Martinez and Nate McFaul combined for a 1:48.30. Nathan Young joined Martinez, Thornbrue and McFaul in the 400 free relay (3:57.28). Brett Champlin came on board with Thornbrue, Mathias and McFaul to rewrite the 200 medley record to 2:02.69.

Also setting individual standards were Pacific Northwest’s Amy Tang (10-and-under girls 100 back, 1:11.83) and Inland Empire’s Taylor McCoy (13-14 girls 200 back, 2:19.80).

Colorado’s 10-and-under 400 free relays both set zone standards. The girls team of Ella Drury, Katie McClelland, Petra Peitz-Diaz and Avery Turney combined for a 4:40.43; Andrew McGill, Connor Hassert, Keegan Chatham and Scott Jensen posted a 4:32.94. Pacific Swimming’s 10-and-under 400 medley relays did the same thing: Nicole Stiles, Nadia Bouraoui, Lauren Okamoto and Taylor Schaffer went 5:17.34; Zach Le-Nguyen, Malcome Mackey, Guy Zamir and William Nagle combined for a 5:11.19.

Colorado’s 13-14 boys team set records in both free relay events. J.J. Strain, Keegan Bundy, Austin Park and Griffin Eiber lowered the 400 free mark to 3:43.54. Mason James joined Bundy, Park and Eiber for a 1:40.92 in the 200 free relay. The girls 13-14 Colorado squad lowered both medley relay records. Patricia Van Law, Bailey Kovac, Morgan Rosas and Hannah Paris posted a 2:03.18 in the 200 medley; Sydney Trimm led off the 400 medley team of Kovac, Rosas and Paris to a 4:29.00 in the 400 medley.

ROSEVILLE, California, Aug. 13.
