PHOENIX, Arizona, August 14. USA Swimming announced the 18 women and 18 men that will travel to Dubai for the world junior swimming championships, which starts August 26.<\/p>\n
Becca Mann, who just competed in open water events at the world championships in Barcelona, will have a full slate of pool events in Dubai. She’ll race in the 400 and 800 freestyles, as well as the 200 butterfly and 400 IM. Mann was a finalist in all four of those events at the USA Swimming nationals in late June.<\/p>\n
Other women on the team of note include 200 IM national independent high school record holder Ella Eastin, who will compete with Mann in the 400 IM, as well as the 200 IM; Kylie Stewart, who was a nationals finalist in multiple events and will swim the 200 backstroke; Abby Weitzeil, who placed third in the Swimming World rankings of female high school swimmers this past season, is racing in the 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n
Caeleb Dressel was one of the highlights of not only the USA Swimming nationals, but the junior national championships as well. Dressell owns the national age group records for the 15-16 age group in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, and will race all three distances in Dubai. Two other swimmers who set national age group marks this summer are competing in Dubai. Justin Lynch, who broke Michael Phelps’ 100 fly national age group record at nationals, will race in both butterfly events. Andrew Seliskar, who also took down a Phelps national record in the 200 IM, will also race the 200 fly in addition to the 200 IM.<\/p>\n
Gunnar Bentz will be the busiest American swimmer at the meet. The 17-year-old is scheduled to race both breaststroke races and both IMs, in addition to the 800 free relay. Bentz won the 200 breast and 400 IM at junior nationals, and was second in the 100 breast and 200 IM.<\/p>\n
The six-day meet features some of the fastest men 15-18 years old, while females must be 14 and 17 years old. In addition to contesting heats, semifinals and finals, the meet will feature mixed 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays.<\/p>\n
