COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., June 4. THE U.S. Olympic Committee's Bid Evaluation Task Force has announced it will recommend reducing the field from four to two cities following the USOC's Phase II site evaluations in June and July for the selection of the U.S. candidate city for the 2012 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
The Task force plans to visit Washington, D.C., June 28-29; New York City, June 30-July 1; Houston, July 12-13; and San Francisco, July 14-15.<\/p>\n
The Committee expects to reach a decision on the two remaining finalists in September and will submit those names to the USOC's Executive Committee for approval. The USOC's Board of Directors will vote on the U.S. candidate city at its meeting November 2-3 in Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n
Task Force chairman Charles H. Moore said after Saturday's meeting in Colorado Springs, "We wanted to reiterate that the charge of our Task Force is to pick the city with the best chance of winning the Olympic Games of 2012. We feel this is an important step in identifying the two most qualified cities to compete for this honor."<\/p>\n
The International Olympic Committee will choose its host city for the 2012 Games in 2005.<\/p>\n
The original eight cities also included Cincinnati, Dallas, Los Angeles and Tampa. The Task force trimmed the field to four Oct. 26, 2001, after visits to all eight candidate cities in 2001.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
