LONDON, England, August 28. BRITISH Swimming has appointed Tim Jones, former Head of Performance Sport at British Gymnastics, as the Head of Performance Pathway for Swimming.<\/p>\n
Jones, a former international swimmer, is vastly experienced in swimming, having worked within the sport for over ten years before working as Director of the High Performance at Loughborough for UK Athletics and most recently at British Gymnastics.<\/p>\n
Under Jones’ tenure British Gymnastics had its most successful cycle and the London 2012 Olympic Games were the most successful Games ever for the sport.<\/p>\n
In his new role at British Swimming, Jones will lead and drive the strategic delivery of the world class athlete performance pathway to maximise the potential of the World Class Podium Potential and Talent athletes.<\/p>\n
Working with the National Performance Director, Chris Spice and the ASA, Scottish Swimming and Swim Wales, Jones will create a pathway programme which will be seamless from junior to senior international teams<\/p>\n
He said: “I’m delighted to be joining British Swimming and I believe I can make a positive contribution to the sport.<\/p>\n
“I was attracted by the prospect of working alongside Chris Spice and Bill Furniss in building the new Senior Leadership team.<\/p>\n
“I have a wide range of skills and experiences across a range of sports which I know can be utilised to the benefit of British Swimming.<\/p>\n
“I’m looking forward to the prospect of building a new, stronger programme in the run up to Rio and 2020.”<\/p>\n
Chris Spice, National Performance Director for British Swimming said: “Tim is one of the outstanding performance leaders in the UK and he will make a terrific addition to our leadership team in British Swimming.<\/p>\n
“His track record, not only in swimming but in athletics and more recently British gymnastics, makes me confident we will now be able to drive forward the changes necessary for elite swimming from top to bottom.<\/p>\n
“We welcome him and look forward to getting started as we build the programme toward Rio 2016 and beyond.”<\/p>\n
