DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, August 31. AFTER claiming Trinidad and Tobago’s first FINA World Junior Swimming Championships medal with a win in the 50-meter fly this week, Dylan Carter is drawing some rave reviews from his native land.<\/p>\n

George Bovell, an Olympic bronze medalist and former world-record holder and top swimmer out of the region, had heavy praise for Carter yesterday in the Trinidad Express. <\/p>\n

“I think it’s a great performance,” Bovell, who also earned a bronze medal in the 50 free at Worlds this summer, told the Trinidad Express. “I’m sure it will be encouraging for him, as he’s now seeing that he can be successful internationally. And I hope the trend continues, and that we see more great things to come from Dylan Carter, and he becomes an example for our youth that it is possible to shine on the international stage.”<\/p>\n

That’s nearly the equivalent of passing the torch for Bovell as Carter continues his climb in the international ranks.<\/p>\n

Carter has been training with the David Nadadores, and is slated to join the University of Southern California in January 2014. He had actually qualified to compete alongside Bovell in Barcelona this summer, but elected to focus on Dubai so that he would have more events on his slate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
