SHENYANG, China, September 9. THE morning after claiming the Asian and Chinese records in the men’s 100-meter freestyle, Ning Zetao of the Liberation Army tracked down the men’s 50-meter freestyle Asian record at the Chinese National Games.<\/p>\n

Ning blitzed the preliminary heats with a scorching 21.91. That swim eclipsed the previous record of 21.95 set by Shi Runqiang of China back in 2009 at the Chinese National Championships. Ning is now on the outskirts of the top 10 in the world this year anchored by Andrey Govorov with a 21.80 from Worlds.<\/p>\n

Last night, Ning raced his way to a 48.27 to down the Asian record in the men’s 100-meter free as he won gold in the event. That swim surpassed the 48.33 relay leadoff set by Lu Zhiwu earlier in the week as part of Zhejiang’s 400 free relay victory. Ning hinted at the possibility of breaking the 100 free record during the individual swim when he blasted a 47.24 anchor for the Liberation Army’s silver swim in the finale. <\/p>\n

Ning had been relatively unknown internationally until April of this year with he posted a 48.60 in the men’s 100-meter free to beat the previous Chinese record of 48.73 held by Chen Zuo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
