BRISBANE, Australia, September 14. THREE-time Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Rice of Australia has ruled out giving the 2016 Rio Olympics a run, but is now on record as saying that the 2014 Commonwealth Games are her final goal in the sport of swimming.<\/p>\n
In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Rice explained that she’s back in the pool at least until this December to gauge the likelihood of her having a successful run to the Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
“I’m trying to figure out what my next move is,” Rice said. “There’s a lot of anxiety over what my next move will be. It is stressful because I like to have a goal to work towards. I’ve already decided I won’t swim in another Olympics. Four years is such a long time for such an intense training schedule. As much as I’d love to go to Rio, I couldn’t do another four years, so I’ve given myself the Commonwealth Games as a goal for swimming.”<\/p>\n
The 2008 Swimming World World Swimmer of the Year, who took the international swimming community by storm from 2006 through 2008 starting with an IM sweep at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, followed by an Olympic IM sweep at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has struggled to reclaim that magic the past five years. <\/p>\n
She’s had multiple injuries since then, and has also found plenty of success away from the pool as she develops her post-swimming career. In fact, she won the 2013 edition of the Australian Celebrity Apprentice. <\/p>\n
