Read more about <strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hali-flickinger-on-body-transformation-i-need-all-the-strength-i-can-get\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">body transformation<\/a>, <strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/siobhan-haughey-building-legacy-as-hong-kongs-greatest-swimmer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rise globally<\/a>, <strong>Olivia Smoliga<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olivia-smoliga-riding-wave-of-momentum-heading-into-worlds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">motivation<\/a> and <strong>Andrew Wilson<\/strong>&#8216;s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/andrew-wilson-embraces-rare-ncaa-division-iii-path-to-national-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> rise from a Division III swimmer<\/a> to the national team.<\/p>\n<p>And of course, check out all of the race predictions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2019-fina-world-aquatics-championships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kolesnikov arriving late<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The world record holder in the 50 backstroke, <strong>Kliment Kolesnikov<\/strong>, will miss the gathering of the Russian national team in Osaka, Japan, before the World Aquatics Championships and will arrive at the event in South Korea separately from the others, <a href=\"https:\/\/rsport.ria.ru\/20190709\/1556333688.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his coach told RIA Novosti<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kolesnikov did not take part in the gathering of the national team in the Far East, because after health problems he was waiting for admission to participate in the World Cup. On July 10, most of the Russian team flew to Osaka, where the country&#8217;s final gathering is taking place.<\/p>\n<h2>Artistic Swimming<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Svetlana Kolesnichenko claims gold<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Artistic Swimming competition taking place in the Yeomju Gymnasium commenced with the finals for the Technical Solo event this evening in Gwangju, Korea. After yesterday\u2019s preliminary round which saw 28 soloists compete, the top twelve athletes qualified for tonight\u2019s final. Heavy favorite and reigning world champion Russia\u2019s <strong>Svetlana Kolesnichenko<\/strong> continued her dominance in the Artistic Swimming world by earning 95.0023 points to claim the gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>Swimming to the song \u201cSurvivor\u201d, the theme song from the movie Lara Croft, Kolesnichenko\u2019s routine depicted the athletic female warrior popularized in the series. This is her 14th world championship gold medal, to which she may be adding as she will be competing in four more events this week.<\/p>\n<p>Check out more results <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fina.org\/news\/artistic-swimming-day-2-favourite-kolesnichenko-rus-claims-gold-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Open water<\/h2>\n<p><strong>U.S. Duo reflects on 5K finish<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>U.S. National Team member <b>Michael Brinegar<\/b> (Columbus, Ind.\/Mission Viejo Nadadores) was the top-American finisher in the Men\u2019s 5K Open Water competition where he placed 12<sup>th<\/sup> in a time of 53:37.1. <b>Brennan Gravley<\/b> (Las Vegas, Nev.\/Sandpipers of Nevada) finished in 14<sup>th<\/sup> place in a time of 53:37.8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really good learning experience. I know what I can do better for each open water swim that I have. It was just a really rough race and it was kind of good finishing in the top 20 so I\u2019m happy with that,&#8221; Brinegar said. \u201cThe last lap was the first time I saw (Brennan), and it just gave me the motivation to keep going. I had fallen way back and seeing him keep going really helped me to get motivation to push myself harder. I think we kind of used each other to push each other at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gravley\u2019s overall thoughts on his 5K race: \u201cIt was pretty good. I think if I positioned myself a little bit better from the start, I would have been able to get higher. From what I heard from the coaches, they were telling me that (Brinegar) and I moved up a lot on the last lap. For my first Worlds, I\u2019ll definitely take it. It was really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Check out the 5K full coverage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2019-fina-world-championships-kristof-razovzky-wins-5k-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Diving<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>British team reflects on silver<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jack Laugher<\/strong> and Dan<strong> Goodfellow<\/strong> won Great Britain\u2019s first medal of the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in South Korea on Saturday night, clinching silver in the Men\u2019s 3m Synchro.<\/p>\n<p>The Brits delivered a beautiful front 4\u00bd somersault tuck (109C) with both poise and panache to bag 86.64 points, their best score of the competition, to secure silver. China ultimately took gold with a 439.74 point haul, with the Mexicans taking bronze. \u201cJob done! I mean this year has been a bit ropey for both of us &#8211; we\u2019ve had some good highs but real lows as well, so to do that here, qualify that Olympic spot and get a silver medal, it means the world to us. This is Dan\u2019s first World Championships medal and my first World silver as well, so for both of us we\u2019re really pleased,&#8221; Laugher said.<\/p>\n<p>Goodfellow added: \u201cI knew we were capable of doing it but actually putting a performance together is something we\u2019re really proud of \u2013 it\u2019s unbelievable really. We\u2019ve had a lot of bad performances throughout the World Series and maybe without them we wouldn\u2019t have achieved what we did today.
