BERKELEY, California, September 16. WITH Bay Area rival Stanford cleaning up in the female swimmer recruiting field, Teri McKeever got her first verbal commitment of the season today, as sprinter Cierra Runge announced her plans to move to Berkeley next fall.<\/p>\n

Runge had a successful summer in the pool, qualifying for the junior world championships and winning two relay medals. Her best 100-meter freestyle time of 55.22 was done as a relay leadoff swim in the 400 free relay in Dubai, while her 50 free time of 25.72 was done at last year’s Olympic Trials. (Runge was 25th in the 100 free and 26th in the 50 free at the 2012 Trials.)<\/p>\n

Her short course yards swimming has potential for improvement, and it’s likely that McKeever knows that Runge’s time working with Bob Bowman at North Baltimore Aquatic Club will pay off soon. Her 50-yard freestyle time of 23.11 and her 100-yard freestyle time of 49.24 wouldn’t have qualified for the 2013 NCAA championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
