A tie for first place, teammate filled podiums, maragin-of-a-second wins and personal bests: night two of the 2019 Speedo Sectionals Greensboro had it all! Feeding off the energy of Thursday night’s success, swimmers competing in the finals for Friday left all they had in the pool in pursuit of team victory and personal accomplishment.<\/p>\n

Some highlights include Lakeside Swim Team’s dominant performance in both the Men’s and Women’s medley relay, Zachary Brown<\/strong> and Eric Knowles<\/strong> tie in the Men’s 200 free and Kentucky Aquatics taking first place in both the Men’s and Women’s 400 IM. The 2019 Speedo Sectionals Greensboro are held in the Greensboro Aquatic Center from July 11-14. After the second night of competition, the top three combined team scores are as follows.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

    Kylee Alons<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite touched the wall in 2:01.05 to finish first in the Women’s ‘A’ final of the 200 freestyle. Close behind was Geena Freriks<\/strong> of Kentucky Aquatics (2:01.21) and Julia Poole<\/strong> of Marlins of Raleigh (2:01.77). Following the stiff competition between the top three finishers was\u00a0Kathleen Moore<\/strong> of Marlins of Raleigh (2:03.24),\u00a0Easop Lee<\/strong> of Unattached Duke (2:03.56) and Emily Ilgenfritz<\/strong> of Unattached Georgia Tech (2:03.67). Isabella Gati<\/strong> of Kentucky Aquatics (2:04.01) and Adaline Bullock<\/strong> of Stingrays (2:06.08) rounded out tonight’s final.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

    Eric Knowles <\/strong>of Wolfpack Elite and\u00a0Zachary Brown <\/strong>of Marlins of Raleigh stunned the crowd at night two of the Greensboro Speedo Sectionals as they both touched the wall in a time of 1:49.87. Nearly three seconds after the two victors came a close battle for the following places, with\u00a0Hank Siefert<\/strong> of Kentucky Aquatics (1:52.19),\u00a0Zachary Hills<\/strong>\u00a0of Lexington Dolphins (1:52.41), Glen Brown<\/strong> of Kentucky (1:52.81) Aquatics, Nicholas Smith <\/strong>of Kentucky Aquatics (1:52.84) and Curtis Wiltsey<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite (1:53.22) finishing within margins of a second of each other.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 100 Back<\/h3>\n

    In yet another exciting and close race of the night, Bridgette\u00a0Alexander\u00a0<\/b>of Kentucky Aquatics snagged the victory in the Women’s 100 back final (1:01.81), with Marcella Maguire <\/strong>of Cavalier Swimming (1:02.08) right on her tail. Megan Moroney<\/strong> of\u00a0Cavalier Swimming\u00a0(1:02.40), Sophia Sorenson <\/b>(1:02.46) and Parker Herren (1:02.69)\u00a0of Kentucky Aquatics<\/strong>\u00a0, MacKenzie Glover<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite (1:03.01),\u00a0Danika Huizinga<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite (1:03.92) and Shannon Kearney of <\/strong>Wolfpack Elite (1:04.63) followed.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Back<\/h3>\n

    Teammates Jacob Johnson<\/strong> and Hennessey Stuart<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite went one and two in tonight’s Men’s 100 backstroke final, touching in 55.66 and 55.83, respectively. Next to the wall was\u00a0John Healy<\/strong> of Marlins of Raleigh (56.11), Paul Le<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite (57.15) and\u00a0Justin Grender of Cavalier Swimming (57.28). Hunter Tapp<\/strong> of Lakeside Swim Team (57.45), Alexander Taylor<\/strong> of SwimAtlanta (57.47) and Phillip Manoff<\/strong> swimming Unattached (58.45) rounded out tonight’s competitive 100 backstroke field.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n

    In the ever-grueling 400 IM , Bailey Bonnett<\/strong> of Kentucky Aquatics emerged victorous (4:49.05) beating second place finisher Lauren Poole<\/strong> of North Baltimore Aquatic Club (4:52.38) by nearly three seconds. Gillian Davey<\/strong> of Central Iowa Aquatics (4:53.71) and Bonnett’s teammate Lauren Edelman<\/strong> (4:56.24) were soon to follow. Wolfpack Elite’s\u00a0Jessica Horomanski\u00a0<\/strong>came next with a time of 4:56.71. The final Kentucky Aquatics swimmer in the heat,\u00a0Morgan Lakes<\/strong>\u00a0(5:00.47) battled it out with\u00a0Claire Donan<\/strong>\u00a0(5:00.62) of Lakeside Swim Team and Madison\u00a0Homovich <\/strong>of\u00a0Marlins of\u00a0Raleigh(5:00.82) for sixth, seventh and eighth place.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n

    Kentucky Aquatics proved their dominance in the 400 IM, producing both male and female winners in the event. The victor Kyle Barker\u00a0<\/strong>took first, dropping nearly three seconds off his prelims swim to finish in 4:26.41.\u00a0Michael Moore<\/strong> of Marlins of Raleigh secured second place with a 4:27.12, with John Mclyntre<\/strong> of Wolfpack Elite rounding out the top three in 4:29.88. Teammates Timothy Ellett<\/strong>\u00a0(4:32.22) and Connor Blandford<\/strong>\u00a0(4:32.61)\u00a0of Kentucky Aquatics finished fourth and fifth. Jack Valiquette<\/strong> of SwimMac Carolina (4:33.12), Everett Werner<\/strong> of Unattached Duke (4:33.87) and\u00a0Daniel Orcutt<\/strong> of Kentucky Aquatics (4:36.49) rounded out tonight’s 400 IM heats.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n

    The final event of the night’s program was the Men and Women’s 400 Medley relay. On the Women’s side,\u00a0Lakeside Swim Team ‘A’ consisting of Annabel Crush, Claire Donan, Emily Lenihan and Caroline Pape<\/strong> cruised to an easy victory, finishing five seconds ahead of the Marlins of Raleigh ‘A’ team (4:20.55), with a time of 4:15.68. South Carolina Swim Team ‘A’ Relay (4:29.91) claimed third place, followed by Lakeside Swim Team ‘B’ (4:30.29) and YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim ‘A’ team (4:33.86).<\/p>\n

    Men’s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n

    Lakeside Swim Team completely dominated in the relay events tonight, with the Men’s Lakeside Team ‘A’, made up of William Cole, William Brehm, Conner Kang and Hunter Tapp,<\/strong> placing first in a time of 3:51.48. Seven seconds after Lakeside came Marlins of Raleigh ‘A’ team (3:58.67), Lakeside ‘B’ Team (4:01.62) and South Carolina Swim Club ‘A’ Team (4:12.72). The YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim ‘A’ Team was disqualified.<\/p>\n
