The second night of finals of the 2019 Speedo Sectionals stop in Austin, Texas saw competition in the 200 breast, 200 free and 400 IM. This meet is taking place at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin, Texas from July 11-14.<\/p>\n

The Aggies remain firmly in control on the women’s side, consolidating their lead from yesterday to lead the Longhorns by 121.5 points. On the men’s side, the Longhorns lead the Aggies by 120 points. Overall, the battle for top honors is heating up as the Aggies have overtaken the Longhorns, but their margin is just 1.5 points. Both these teams have tremendous depth and it is sure to be a nail-biting contest to the finish line.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 200 Breast<\/h3>\n

    World Championships medalist Madisyn Cox<\/strong> dropped over five seconds from the morning heats to win tonight’s first final for the Longhorns in a time of 2:26.36. The Aggies showed their immense breaststroke depth with five finalists in the championship final. Yesterday’s 100 breaststroke champion, Anna Belousova<\/strong> from Aggie Swim Club, took runner-up honors with a time of 2:27.56, while her teammate Bethany Galat\u00a0<\/strong>finished third touching the wall at 2:28.02.<\/p>\n

    Aggie teammates Esther Gonsalez Medina<\/strong> (2:29.17), Kylie Powers<\/strong> (2:34.19) and\u00a0Victoria Roubique<\/strong> (2:34.26) grabbed fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively. Swimming unattached, Peyton Kondis\u00a0<\/strong>came seventh with a time of 2:35.21 while\u00a0Ella Flowers<\/strong> (2:36.92) of Rice Aquatics rounded out the championship final.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 200 Breast<\/h3>\n

    American Record Holder Will Licon <\/strong>of Longhorn Aquatics led the race from start to finish and never looked back; winning comfortably in a solid time of 2:08.88. Over eight seconds back, unattached swimmer Michael Couet<\/strong> grabbed second place with a time of 2:17.36, while Longhorn’s Charlie Scheinfeld<\/strong> took third place clocking in at 2:18.31.<\/p>\n

    Touching in fourth place was Longhorn’s Arthur Cheng <\/strong>(2:21.50) who edged out unattached swimmer Braden Vines<\/strong> (2:21.61). Nabbing sixth place was Jacques Rathle\u00a0<\/strong>(2:23.17) swimming for Crawfish Aquatics, while 16 year old Benjamin Willetts<\/strong> took seventh place (2:25.21) for Eagle Swimming. Spring Swim Team’s Aaron Parrott<\/strong> got disqualified for a false start.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

    Winning a close race for gold was 16 year old\u00a0Rylie Lopez\u00a0<\/strong>of Austin Swim Club, touching the wall in a time of 2:01.66. Less than three tenths behind, Aggie’s Sarah Gibson<\/strong> took second place honors clocking in at 2:01.91. Future Stanford Cardinal Lillie Nordmann\u00a0<\/strong>of Magnolia Aquatics finished third with a time of 2:02.23.<\/p>\n

    There was a tie for fourth place, with Lakeside Aquatics’ Riley Francis<\/strong> and Longhorn’s Quinn Schaedler<\/strong> sharing the honor at 2:02.48. Winner of the 200 back yesterday, Aggie’s\u00a0Karling Hemstreet<\/strong> (2:03.80) edged out Longhorn’s\u00a0Logan Shiller\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.09) for the sixth place while Lakeside Aquatics’ Amelia Liu<\/strong> (2:04.12) rounded out the championship final.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

    Winning comfortably by over two seconds was Drew Kibler<\/strong> swimming unattached with a time of 1:47.16. Unattached\u00a0Maxime Rooney\u00a0<\/strong>finished second clocking in at 1:49.21 and Longhorn’s Clark Smith\u00a0<\/strong>also swam under 1:50 with a time of 1:49.79.<\/p>\n

    Finishing in fourth place was Aggie Swim Club’s\u00a0Mark Theall\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.93) while\u00a0Dusan Babic\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.06) of Texan Christian won the battle for fifth place over unattached\u00a0Alex Zettle\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.73) and Streamline Aquatics’\u00a0Kyrylo Shvets<\/strong> (1:53.94). Aggie’s\u00a0Jose Martinez\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.54) finished eighth to close out the championship final.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n

    Monika Gonsalez-Hermosillo <\/strong>of Aggie Swim Club took the title in a closely fought race clocking in at 4:49.60. She dropped over seven seconds from this morning’s prelims. In second place was Tulane Aquatics’ Olivia Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>with a time of 4:50.41, while World Championships medalist Bethany Galat<\/strong> finished third in 4:53.45 swimming for the Aggies.<\/p>\n

    Winning fourth-place honors for Rockwall Aquatics was 15 year old Laci Black<\/strong> with a time of 4:54.44. Lakeside Aquatics’ Margaret Gholston\u00a0<\/strong>finished fifth (4:57.47) to out-touch\u00a0Ella Flowers\u00a0<\/strong>(4:57.82) swimming for Rice Aquatics. Aggie’s Mollie Wright<\/strong> (5:05.41) and Lakeside Aquatics’ Jenna Watson<\/strong> (5:07.61) came seventh and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n

    Aggie’s Benjamin Walker <\/strong>won the final event of the evening by over three seconds, clocking in at 4:26.24 to take the title. Grabbing runner-up honors was 15 year old Collin Klingman<\/strong> of Crawfish Aquatics with a time of 4:29.78, while Longhorn’s Coby Carrozza<\/strong> finished third in 4:30.50.<\/p>\n

    Touching in fourth place was\u00a0David Johnston<\/strong> of Rockwall Aquatics with a time of 4:33.42, while Longhorn’s Halvor Borgstroem<\/strong> (4:35.77) finished fifth. Colin Feehery<\/strong> of Lakeside Aquatics nabbed sixth place (4:38.27) and 15 year old Jacques Rathle <\/strong>(4:39.87) of Crawfish Aquatics took seventh place.\u00a0John Boylan\u00a0<\/strong>of Crawfish Aquatics (4:45.42) rounded out the championship final.<\/p>\n
