LOS ANGELES, California, September 19. IN a crucial stage of the Olympic, Paralympic hosting bid process, the Los Angeles Country Supervisors “unanimously voted to urge the United States Olympic Committee to submit a bid” on behalf of Los Angeles to host the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, according to Inside the Games.<\/p>\n
“Los Angeles is home to more Olympians than anywhere in the world, and has twice hosted the Summer Olympic Games,” board chairman Mark Ridley-Thomas said. “The traditional reverence for sport among Los Angelenos, combined with their vast creative infrastructure, make Los Angeles uniquely capable as an Olympic host. Los Angeles can draw deeply on its past and present strengths to stage the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 in a way that both respects tradition and the Olympic Charter and introduces new and exciting approaches to this great worldwide celebration.”<\/p>\n
Los Angeles is vying to become a three-time Olympic host city, having previously supported the Games in 1932 and 1984. In fact, 2024 would be the 40-year anniversary since Los Angeles last hosted the Olympics. <\/p>\n
While there are upwards of 35 cities currently under consideration by the USOC, Los Angeles was the first to begin the formal process of attempting to host. Washington, D.C. is another front-runner in the process, while Philadelphia, Dallas, Seattle and San Diego (along with a Mexican connection) also have publicly been pushed as potential hosts. <\/p>\n
