NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana, September 19. CATHERINE Vogt was not a newcomer to the open water swimming scene when she guided Haley Anderson and Ous Mellouli to the medal podium at the 2012 Olympics in the 10K marathon swim, and in part two of her talk done recently at the American Swim Coaches Association’s world clinic, she talks about the road to preparing the two for their Olympic open water debuts.<\/p>\n

The first step for Anderson was qualifying for the Olympic team, which she did in a race in Portugal. Vogt talked about Anderson’s personality and how she dealt with getting advice on the day of a big race. Mellouli was also in Portugal to qualify for the Olympic 10K field, and his preparation and race expectations varied differently from Anderson’s, which made things challenging but ultimately successful for Vogt.<\/p>\n
Vogt also discussed the training in the weeks leading up to the Olympic Games, particularly in dealing with Mellouli’s preparation for the 1500 freestyle in the pool competition and why Anderson did not arrive in London until much later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
