\nA new chapter started at Swimming World, July 4, as Independence Day was celebrated in the United States. It was only fitting that we also celebrated the freedom of the press and independent journalism by welcoming Craig Lord and John Lohn back to the fold to oversee Swimming World\u2019s media platforms.<\/p>\n

012 WADA PROVIDES FIRST BATCH OF CASES FROM RUSSIA INVESTIGATION TO INTERNATIONAL FEDERATIONS<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced it has provided a first batch of cases to International Federations with respect to its Russian investigation. The achievement was made possible by the WADA Executive Committee\u2019s September 2018 decision, which reinstated the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) as compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code under strict conditions, including that RUSADA and the Russian Ministry of Sport provide WADA with required samples by a June 30 deadline, which was met.<\/p>\n

014 RACHEL STRATTON-MILLS PROMOTED TO ARIZONA STATE SWIMMING AND DIVING ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH<\/strong><\/span>
\nASU head swimming coach Bob Bowman announced the elevation of senior assistant coach Rachel Stratton-Mills to associate head coach of Sun Devil Swimming. The move comes as Stratton-Mills enters her third season with the program this fall.<\/p>\n

015 ELLA EASTIN\u2014NCAA CHAMPION, AMERICAN RECORD HOLDER\u2014SIGNS WITH ARENA<\/strong><\/span>
\nGlobal sports brand, arena, added NCAA champion Ella Eastin to its North America team of sponsored athletes. Eastin, the 2019 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is the first woman in collegiate history to win the 400 IM all four years of her collegiate career while swimming for Cal-Berkeley from 2015-19.<\/p>\n

016 OLYMPIAN KARA LYNN JOYCE CONTINUES TO GIVE BACK TO SWIMMING<\/span> <\/strong>

\nThree-time Olympian Kara Lynn Joyce, who continues to give back to her sport since retiring from competitive swimming following the 2012 London Games, spoke with Swimming World about her success and the importance of LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment & Athletic Development) in supporting young female athletes by teaching, empowering and cultivating an environment for leadership and confidence.<\/p>\n

018 AMERICAN RECORD HOLDER REGAN SMITH VERBALLY COMMITS TO STANFORD<\/span> <\/strong>

\nHigh school junior Regan Smith\u2014arguably one of the most sought-out recruits in the Class of 2020\u2014declared her verbal commitment to swim for Stanford after she graduates from high school next year. Smith, 17, is the American record holder in the women\u2019s 200 yard back and owns multiple World Junior and NAG records.<\/p>\n

019 KATHLEEN BAKER DROPS 200 IM FROM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS; ELLA EASTIN PICKS UP SPOT<\/strong><\/span>

\nAmerican Kathleen Baker, who was scheduled to swim the 50, 100 and 200 back, along with the 200 IM at the upcoming World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, indicated she will not swim the 200 IM since the final falls on the same day as the 100 back semifinal. Ella Eastin, Baker\u2019s replacement in the 200 IM, will be swimming in her first World Championships.<\/p>\n

\nSwimming World sources have confirmed that Steve Roush, 60, has been offered the position of chief executive officer for the American Swim Coaches Association to replace John Leonard, who will be retiring Jan. 1, 2020. Roush has been a proven advocate for elite athletes over the years through his various roles as a collegiate swim coach, executive for USA Swimming, sports partnership director for the U.S. Olympic Committee and USOC\u2019s chief of sport performance.<\/p>\n
