{"id":378990,"date":"2019-07-07T14:59:10","date_gmt":"2019-07-07T21:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=378990"},"modified":"2019-07-07T14:59:10","modified_gmt":"2019-07-07T21:59:10","slug":"usa-womens-water-polo-sweeps-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usa-womens-water-polo-sweeps-greece\/","title":{"rendered":"USA Women&#8217;s Water Polo Sweeps Greece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The USA Women&#8217;s Water Polo team capped off their four game exhibition series against Greece with a commanding 18-7 victory in front of a loud hometown crowd at the University of the Pacific. <dfn><strong>Makenzie Fischer<\/strong>\u00a0<\/dfn>poured in five goals to lead the way on offense for Team USA.\u00a0<strong><dfn>Ashleigh Johnson<\/dfn><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><dfn>Amanda Longan<\/dfn><\/strong>\u00a0split time in the cage recording 2 and 4 saves respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Team USA got on the board first through a goal by\u00a0<dfn><strong>Makenzie Fischer<\/strong><\/dfn>, but Greece responded with a goal of their own to tie the game 1-1. Team USA then proceeded to score five straight goals to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter belonged to Team USA as they put six more on the board with two coming from team captain\u00a0<dfn>M<strong>aggie Steffens<\/strong><\/dfn>\u00a0as they took a 12-1 halftime lead.<\/p>\n<p>The second half was tighter as Greece and Team USA exchanged goals in the third quarter as Greece managed to outscore Team USA 3-2 to narrow the lead to 14-4 at halftime.
