ANN ARBOR, Michigan, September 27. THE men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams for Michigan handled their business against the Iowa Hawkeyes to kick of the 2013-14 season. Head coach Mike Bottom’s men posted a 182-110 victory, while the women cleaned up with a 185-111 triumph.<\/p>\n
The Michigan men swept their way to wins in all but one event with Bruno Ortiz, Connor Jaeger and Dylan Bosch each clinching a pair of individual wins. Ortiz earned victories in the 50 free (20.50) and the 100 free (44.88), while Jaeger dominated the distance events with wins in the 500 free (4:27.09) and 1000 free (9:04.53). Bosch, meanwhile, picked up a win in the 100 fly (48.75) and 200 fly (1:46.99).<\/p>\n
It was the defending NCAA champion’s 45th victory in its last 46 season openers. <\/p>\n
Roman Trussov held off the sweep as the Hawkeye clocked a 2:01.80 to capture the men’s 200-yard breaststroke event. <\/p>\n
Michigan’s women, meanwhile, laid claim to 13 of 16 events in their opener. Ali Deloof picked up a pair of top times with a 55.25 in the 100 back and a 51.97 in the 100 free. North Carolina transfer Kelsey Cummings also shined with wins in the 1000 free (10:06.17) and 500 free (5:00.21). <\/p>\n
Iowa put up a bit more of a fight on the women’s side with Emma Sougstad claiming the 50 free in 23.84, Haley Gordon winning the 100 fly in 56.43 and Joelle Christy clinching the three-meter diving title (312.08) points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
