WILMINGTON, North Carolina, September 27. A day after some team-building exercises in North Carolina, the Tennessee Volunteers and Lady Volunteers stormed to a pair of victories against UNC Wilmington in what proved to be a celebratory loss for the Seahawks considering the program was nearly cut during the offseason.<\/p>\n
The UT women cruised to a 178-116 triumph after placing third at NCAAs last year. The men, who are in a bit of a rebuilding mode but managed to have a monster recruiting class, topped UNCW 167-133.<\/p>\n
The women took down a pair of facility standards at the Seahawk Natatorium. The women’s 200-yard medley relay of Lauren Solernou, Molly Hannis, Harper Bruens and Faith Johnson turned in a 1:43.42. That broke UNCW’s record of 1:44.06 set back in 2010. <\/p>\n
Lindsay Gendron then captured her second pool record by blasting the 200-yard freestyle finale. She threw down a 1:50.78, crushing the previous mark of 1:52.12 held by UNCW’s Libby Mayock since 2011. Gendron also owns the 100-yard free mark with a 50.88 from 2012. <\/p>\n
For the men, redshirt sophomore Mauricio Robles turned in a tally of 387.37 points in the men’s three-meter springboard competition to down a pool record. The 2012 Southeastern Conference platform champion, who also won the one-meter today, is returning from injury this year. <\/p>\n
UNCW’s men took advantage of UT not having its sprint studs at the meet as Drew Gaertner (22.00) and Gabe Thran (22.06) went 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle. UNCW also went 1-2 in the women’s 100 breast with Christine Souther (1:06.22) and Kathryn Ostrom (1:08.28) sweeping the top two spots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
