At the 2019 World University Games, Zane Waddell<\/strong> of South Africa set the meet record in the men’s 50 back during the prelims and lowered the record again during finals.<\/p>\n

During heat 1 of the semi finals, USA\u2019s\u00a0Justin Ress<\/strong> was under the meet record set in prelims by Waddell. The new record set by Ress (24.52) only stood for a few minutes until Waddell swam a new meet record of 24.46 in heat 2 of the semi finals.<\/p>\n

Russia teammates\u00a0Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong>\u00a0(24.64) and\u00a0Mark Nikolaev<\/strong>\u00a0(25.00) qualify third and fourth seed for the finals just ahead of Brazil\u2019s\u00a0Gabriel Fantoni<\/strong>\u00a0(25.03) and Hungary\u2019s\u00a0Bence Szentes\u00a0<\/strong>(25.05). Ukraine\u2019s\u00a0Bohdan Kasian<\/strong>\u00a0and Belarus\u2019\u00a0Viktar Staselovich\u00a0<\/strong>tie in a time of 25.14 for the last two spots heading into the finals.<\/p>\n
