MISSION VIEJO, California, September 30. MINNESOTA picked up another strong recruit as Mission Viejo’s Brooke Lorentzen elected to accept an offer from the Golden Gophers today.<\/p>\n
Lorentzen, who is the 31st-ranked recruit in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com, was seen as a Minnesota lock early in the process and that came to fruition today.<\/p>\n
The Open Water Junior National teamer will be an immediate boon to the Golden Gopher distance program, coming out of the Nadadore training team that produced the likes of Olympian Chloe Sutton and recent RCP Tiburon Mile victor Ashley Twichell.<\/p>\n
Lorentzen is definitely more of a focused long course swimmer as Mission Viejo’s Bill Rose has more of an Olympic distance setup in Southern California. Lorentzen’s best times are in the 400-meter free (4:15.06), 800-meter free (8:43.92) and 1500-meter free (16:41.32) with the 1500 and 400 coming by way of the 2013 Speedo Junior National Championships.<\/p>\n
Lorentzen’s best short course yard time in the mile, however, came by way of where she will be calling home after her senior year. She clocked a 16:8.11 in the 1650-yard free at the 2012 Minneapolis Grand Prix. Lorentzen also has some 500-yard free speed with a 4:45.19 from the CIF-SS Division 1 High School Championships.<\/p>\n
She also has a 1:47.89 to her credit in the 200-yard free for her third NCAA event, and will definitely give Minnesota an additional option in its 800-yard freestyle relay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
