Both swimmers finished their prelim heat in 3:49.40.<\/p>\n<p>American <strong>Robert Freeman III<\/strong> finished with the third seed in 3:50.23 to make the finals ahead of Japan\u2019s<strong> Keisuke Yoshida<\/strong> (3:50.36).<\/p>\n<p>Italy\u2019s <strong>Matteo Ciampi<\/strong> took the fifth seed in 3:50.99, followed by American <strong>Zachary Yeadon<\/strong> (3:51.18), Italy\u2019s <strong>Mattia Zuin<\/strong> (3:51.56).<\/p>\n<p>Poland\u2019s <strong>Filip Zaborowski<\/strong> and Sweden\u2019s <strong>Adam Paulsson<\/strong> tied for the eighth seed in 3:51.47 and will have a swim-off to determine the last finalist in the event.<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 50 Fly<\/h2>\n<p>Russia\u2019s <strong>Tayla Lovemore<\/strong> (26.51) took the top seed in the women\u2019s 50 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Korea\u2019s <strong>Soeun Jeong<\/strong> (26.70) finished with the second seed as the top 16 qualified for the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s <strong>Ai Soma<\/strong> (26.73) was third, followed by Czech Republic\u2019s <strong>Lucie Svecena<\/strong> (26.96), Japan\u2019s <strong>Mayuka Yamamoto<\/strong> (26.76), <strong>Kinge Zandringa<\/strong> (26.79) of the Netherlands, Italy\u2019s <strong>Federica Greco<\/strong> (27.10), Germany\u2019s <strong>Lisa Hopnik<\/strong> (27.10), Chinese Taipei\u2019s <strong>Mei-Chien Huang<\/strong> (27.20), American V<strong>eronica Burchill<\/strong> (27.20) and Britain\u2019s <strong>Emily Barclay<\/strong> (27.27).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 100 Back<\/h2>\n<p>American<strong> Justin Ress<\/strong> took the top seed in the 100 back as the only swimmer to break 54 seconds in the 100 back. He finished in 53.88.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s <strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> finished in 54.28.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s <strong>Mark Kivolaev<\/strong> qualified for the semifinals with a swim of 54.55, followed by France\u2019s<strong> Yohann N\u2019Doye-Brouard<\/strong> (54.56), American <strong>Bryce Mefford<\/strong> (54.57), Brazil\u2019s <strong>Gabriel Fantoni<\/strong> (54.71). South Africa\u2019s <strong>Zane Waddell<\/strong> (54.72) and Australia\u2019s C<strong>ameron Tysoe<\/strong> (54.95).<\/p>\n<p>Other semifinalists included: Korea\u2019s <strong>Juho Lee<\/strong> (55.12), Canada&#8217;s <strong>Rob Hill<\/strong> (55.18), Hungary\u2019s <strong>Benedek Kovacs<\/strong> (55.23), Brazil\u2019s <strong>Guilherme Basseto<\/strong> (55.26), France\u2019s <strong>Stanislas Huilele<\/strong> (55.30), Australia\u2019s <strong>William Yang<\/strong> (55.31), Poland\u2019s <strong>Kacper Stokowski<\/strong> (55.36).<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 400 IM<\/h2>\n<p>American swimmer <strong>Makayala Sargent<\/strong> took the top seed in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:41.28.<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s <strong>Abbie Wood<\/strong> took the second seed in 4:42.28, followed by Japan\u2019s <strong>Sayaka Kashiwazaki<\/strong> (4:42.86), American <strong>Genevieve Pfeifer<\/strong> (4:43.25), <strong>Catalina Corro Lorente<\/strong> of Spain (4:43.50), Italy\u2019s <strong>Ilaria Cusinato<\/strong> (4:45.21), Australia\u2019s <strong>Sophie Caldwell<\/strong> (4:45.85) and Hungary\u2019s <strong>Reka Gyorgy<\/strong> (4:47.62).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 100 Breast<\/h2>\n<p>Britain\u2019s <strong>Craig Benson<\/strong> took the top seed in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:00.07, nearly breaking a minute.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s <strong>Yuya Hinomoto<\/strong> took the second seed in 1:00.16, followed by Italy\u2019s <strong>Federico Poggio<\/strong> (1:00.31), Lithuania\u2019s <strong>Andrius Sidlauskas<\/strong> (1:00.32), South Africa\u2019s <strong>Michael Houlie<\/strong> (1:00.38), Russia\u2019s <strong>Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> (1:00.53), France\u2019s <strong>Theo<\/strong> <strong>Busier<\/strong> (1:00.65) and American <strong>Ian Finnerty<\/strong> (1:00.78).<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 200 Back<\/h2>\n<p>American <strong>Lisa Bratton<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 back, finishing in 2:09.09, holding off compatriot <strong>Asia Seidt<\/strong> (2:09.90).<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s <strong>Chloe Golding<\/strong> took the third seed in 2:10.67, followed by Germany\u2019s <strong>Sonnele Ozturk<\/strong> (2:11.12), Britain\u2019s <strong>Kathryn Greenslade<\/strong> (2:11.81), South Africa\u2019s <strong>Nathan Van Niekerk<\/strong> (2:12.77) and Canada\u2019s<strong> Kennedy Goss<\/strong> (2:13.34).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 50 Fly<\/h2>\n<p>Poland\u2019s <strong>Pawel Sendyk<\/strong> took the top seed in the 50 fly, clocking a 23.78.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>William Yang<\/strong> took the second seed in (23.81), followed by Italy\u2019s <strong>Daniele D\u2019Angelo<\/strong> (23.87) and <strong>Lorenzo<\/strong> <strong>Gargani<\/strong> (23.87), to tied for the third seed.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s <strong>Aleksandr Sadovinokov<\/strong> (23.90) took the fifth spot, followed by Brazil\u2019s A<strong>lberto Lozano Mateos<\/strong> (23.93) and Brazil\u2019s <strong>Guilherme Rosolen<\/strong> (23.93) and Japan\u2019s <strong>Yuya Tanaka<\/strong> (23.96).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 World University Games opened on Thursday with the first prelims session from Naples, Italy.
