{"id":378176,"date":"2019-07-03T12:08:57","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T19:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=378176"},"modified":"2019-07-03T12:08:57","modified_gmt":"2019-07-03T19:08:57","slug":"jeremy-anderson-fugitive-coach-dies-in-costa-rica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jeremy-anderson-fugitive-coach-dies-in-costa-rica\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeremy Anderson, Fugitive Coach, Dies in Costa Rica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Jeremy Anderson<\/strong>, a former swimming coach from Santa Clarita died last week after being captured in Costa Rica, authorities told <em>KTLA 5<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson fled the U.S. after he was accused of molesting children while he was their swim instructor, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson was a former swim coach at the Canyons Aquatic Club in Santa Clarita, died at a hospital, Deputy <strong>Grace Medrano<\/strong> of the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department Information Bureau said in a\u00a0 statement. No information was given regarding a cause of death, <em>KTLA 5<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Anderson was accused of sexually assaulting a swimmer when he was that swimmer\u2019s teacher between 2006-2011. An investigation was launched in 2017.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cAs the investigation evolved, detectives identified additional victims who were victimized by suspect Jeremy Anderson,\u201d Merano said. \u201cThe incidents with these multiple victims occurred at various locations between 2006 and 2017. Suspect Anderson\u2019s conduct included having sexually explicit conversations with the victims and soliciting child pornography.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Los Angeles County District Attorney\u2019s Office filed 19 counts of committing lewd acts with a child and possession of child pornography against Anderson in December of 2018, officials told <a href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/2019\/06\/21\/fugitive-swim-coach-from-santa-clarita-dies-following-capture-in-costa-rica-stood-accused-of-serial-child-molestation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>KTLA 5<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Canyons Aquatic Club was informed of the death Thursday, representatives said in a written statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanyons Aquatic Club had been fully cooperating with USA Swimming, Safe Sport, and local authorities investigating the allegations involving Anderson, which were of great concern to the club,\u201d according to the statement. \u201cHe was apprehended last Thursday in Costa Rica by U.S. Marshals and subsequently passed away last night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, a U.S. Marshals Service task force found and arrested Jeremy Anderson, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/american-swimming-coaches-association-announces-annual-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">former award-winning coach<\/a>, in Costa Rica on June 13.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jeremy Anderson, a former swimming coach from Santa Clarita died last week after being captured in Costa Rica, authorities told KTLA 5.
