\n<\/span>Age Group Swimmer of the Month<\/span><\/h1>\n

Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club\u2019s 11-year-old Raquel Maldonado is one to watch. In January, she blazed into the headlines as a 10 and under when she smashed the 100 meter fly national age group record. As one of the youngest competitors at the senior-level Midwest Premier Meet, her 1:07.06 was nearly 4-tenths faster than the previous NAG mark of 1:07.42.<\/p>\n

While that swim took her into the limelight, a closer look at her short swimming career reveals a remarkably versatile swimmer. She holds individual Illinois state records in 10 events: seven short course (50 yard free, 50-100-200 back, 50-100-200 fly) and three long course (50 meter free, 50-100 fly). She also has some pretty fast teammates who combined with Raquel for an additional three state relay records (200 yard free and the 200 meter free and medley).<\/p>\n

And on the national level, Raquel swam the fastest time in her age group for the 2018-19 SCY season in six events (50-100 free, 50-100 back, 50-100 fly).<\/p>\n

Swimming World:<\/span> What are some of the toughest workouts\/sets you’ve done?<\/span>
\nRaquel:<\/span> One of the hardest practices I have done was: 2×50 (meters) at 400 pace, 2×50 at 200 pace, then 100 all-out. Then we did 4×50 400 pace and 4×50 200 pace, then 100 all-out. And we finished with 6×50 at 400 pace, 6×50 at 200 pace and a 100 all-out.<\/p>\n

SW: What is your favorite thing about swimming?<\/span><\/span>
\nRaquel:<\/span> It\u2019s definitely the fact that swimming is like a whole different world. All of us understand each other and are like one big family.<\/p>\n
