The NCAA Woman of the Year award was established in 1991 and recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Woman of the Year nominees compete in 23 different sports across all three divisions, with Division I representing 262 females. Conferences select up to two nominees from the pool and then the Woman of the Year selection committee will choose the Top 30 honorees \u2013 10 from each division. The selection committee will also determine the top three honorees from each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September. The 2019 Woman of the Year award will be determined from the nine finalists, with the annual award ceremony on Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<h3>NCAA Woman of the Year Winners (Swimmers+Divers)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>2000 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Kristy Kowal<\/strong>, Georgia<\/li>\n<li>2001 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Kimberly Black<\/strong>, Georgia<\/li>\n<li>2007 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Whitney Myers<\/strong>, Arizona<\/li>\n<li>2009 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Lacey Nymeyer<\/strong>, Arizona<\/li>\n<li>2010 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Justine Schluntz<\/strong>, Arizona<\/li>\n<li>2015 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Kristin Day<\/strong>, Clarion<\/li>\n<li>2016 &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Margaret Guo<\/strong>, MIT<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bratton, a 15-time All-American and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/americans-lisa-bratton-kathleen-baker-take-gold-and-silver-in-200-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2018 World Champion<\/a>, earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in ocean engineering, carrying a 3.671 overall grade point average, including a 3.904 GPA in her major. Earlier this year, she was awarded a $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and received a prestigious $10,000 H. Boyd McWhorter Postgraduate Scholarship from the Southeastern Conference. The Richland, Wash. native was also named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for swimming and diving and the Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2018. She will pursue her master\u2019s degree in ocean engineering while training for the 2020 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>A four-year letterwinner, Bratton currently holds the school record in the 200-yard backstroke and also the 400 medley relay.
