Hosszu swam a 2:08.28 to get under the meet record of 2:09.01 she set this morning. Hosszu lowered her season best of 2:08.50 that she had at the FINA Champions Series in Indianapolis in May. She was off her world record of 2:06.12 from 2015 but she is in a much better place than she was in 2018, only managing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-touches-out-ilaria-cusinato-for-200-im-gold-at-euros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a 2:10 at Europeans last summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With four weeks to go until the 2019 World Championships, Hosszu is looking to win her fourth straight 200 IM world title. Only Hosszu (400 IM) and\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>(100 fly) have ever won the same event at the World Championships four times. A couple other swimmers have a chance to join that club this summer including\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>(400, 800, 1500 free),\u00a0<strong>Sun Yang\u00a0<\/strong>(400, 800 free) and <strong>Federica Pellegrini\u00a0<\/strong>(200 free).<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu is currently leading the world rankings for 2019 ahead of Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Pickrem\u00a0<\/strong>(2:08.61) and Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yui Ohashi\u00a0<\/strong>(2:09.14).<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rika Omoto\u00a0<\/strong>(2:09.73) was second as she improved on her season best of 2:09.91 from April to sit fifth in the world for 2019.
