{"id":376211,"date":"2019-07-10T07:00:22","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T14:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=376211"},"modified":"2019-07-10T07:12:54","modified_gmt":"2019-07-10T14:12:54","slug":"the-international-swimming-hall-of-fame-is-accepting-nominations-for-2020-inductees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/the-international-swimming-hall-of-fame-is-accepting-nominations-for-2020-inductees\/","title":{"rendered":"The International Swimming Hall of Fame Is Accepting Nominations For 2020 Inductees"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Call for Nominations for the 2020 ISHOF Induction Class<\/h2>\n<p>The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) is accepting nominations for the 2020 class of inductees, which honors individuals who have achieved tremendous success in the aquatic disciplines and\/or made a significant impact on the sport of aquatics through their lifelong efforts.\u00a0 Nominations must be submitted along with supporting materials by July 10, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 Inductees will be honored at ISHOF\u2019s annual Induction Ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA on Saturday April 24, 2020.<\/p>\n<h3>Nominations can be made by anyone in any of the following six categories:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>SWIMMER (includes Olympic, Masters, Marathon, Open Water and Pioneer Swimmers)<\/li>\n<li>DIVER (includes Olympic, Masters and Pioneer Divers)<\/li>\n<li>WATER POLO PLAYER (includes Olympic, Masters and Pioneer Water Polo Players)<\/li>\n<li>ARTISTIC SWIMMER (includes Olympic, Masters and Pioneer Synchronized Swimmers)<\/li>\n<li>COACH (Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, Masters, Open Water &amp; Marathon Swimming)<\/li>\n<li>CONTRIBUTOR (Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, Masters, Open Water &amp; Marathon Swimming)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Nomination Forms<\/h3>\n<p>Nomination forms can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishof.org\/international-swimming-hall-of-fame-nomination-form-for-honoree-consideration.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ISHOF website<\/a>.\u00a0 You can complete and submit the form <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdbWjNJq9cc0r3Jj5RePDhMmc8ToA1HX9fyjqFnNupU2FIAjQ\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online<\/a>, or print a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishof.org\/assets\/international-swimming-hall-of-fame-honoree-nomination-form_printable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">downloadable form<\/a> and return it via email (<a href=\"mailto:ischmid@ishof.org\">ischmid@ishof.org<\/a>), fax (954.525.4031) or snail mail (Ivonne Schmid, International Swimming Hall of Fame, 1 Hall of Fame Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33316)<\/p>\n<h3>Requirements for Nomination<\/h3>\n<p>Each nominee must meet the following minimum criteria to appear on the ballot:\u00a0 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishof.org\/international-swimming-hall-of-fame-hall-of-fame-honoree-criteria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">full list of criteria<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Generally, athletes shall not be chosen unless\u00a0<b>retired from international competition at least four years<\/b>, or at least one Olympic quadrennial.\u00a0 \u201c<b>Athletes<\/b>\u201d refers to\u00a0<b>swimmers, open water swimmers (FINA), divers, water polo players and artistic (synchronized) swimmers<\/b>. <b>Masters and Marathon swimmers (Non-FINA)<\/b>\u00a0may be nominated without retirement after being inducted in their respective Hall of Fame and will be voted on by the same criteria as all other nominees.<\/li>\n<li>Note that\u00a0<b>male and female candidates are grouped together, alphabetically<\/b>.\u00a0 Male and female candidates should be voted upon as one combined group per category.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>coach<\/strong> must have a <strong>significant international record<\/strong> and have been coaching at least 25 years.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<b>contributor\u00a0<\/b>must have been in aquatics at least 20 years and have had a significant\u00a0<b>international<\/b>\u00a0impact. Athletic achievement should NOT be considered, contributions are to the overall improvement or development of \u201cinternational\u201d sport through leadership, journalism, invention or other area of great, outstanding impact.<\/li>\n<li><b>The Pioneer category<\/b>\u00a0was created to honor great achievements or advancements in aquatics that have been overlooked. These include special circumstances, such as interruptions caused by war or politics, barrier-breaking moments, societal changing events, etc.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<u><\/u><b>All Nominees must exemplify the highest athletic moral and ethical standards.
