Smith touched in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-breaks-world-junior-record-in-100-back-at-counsilman-classic-in-indianapolis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">58.55 in the morning heats<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before taking the record all the way down to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-re-breaks-world-junior-record-in-100-back-with-58-45\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">58.45 at night<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V7jTJHaVztA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her time moves her to #2 in the world rankings, behind only former world record holder <\/span><b>Kylie Masse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and ahead of the two Americans swimming the event at Worlds: <\/span><b>Kathleen Baker<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who also happens to be the world record holder and is ranked just outside the top 5 with a 59.05,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Olivia Smoliga<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is currently fourth with a 58.73 from April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That time also moves her up to #7 on the all-time list, tied with Hungarian <\/span><b>Katinka Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who won gold in the event at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in an identical time to the 17-year-old. Notably, that still puts Smith about a tenth off of the 17-18 NAG record, which belongs to <\/span><b>Missy Franklin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from her 58.33 gold medal performance from the 2012 London Olympics before FINA recognized junior world records. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Smith is not slated to swim the 100 back individually at Worlds, she is certainly making a case for getting a swim in the 400 medley relay, depending on how both the 100 back and 200 back performances pan out.
