﻿{"id":374220,"date":"2019-06-09T17:43:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T00:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=374220"},"modified":"2019-06-09T19:43:24","modified_gmt":"2019-06-10T02:43:24","slug":"2019-santa-clara-international-day-4-finals-live-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2019-santa-clara-international-day-4-finals-live-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Katie McLaughlin, Katie Drabot Move into World&#8217;s Top 5 This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 Santa Clara International concluded on Sunday with a packed finals session, led again by <strong>Katie McLaughlin<\/strong>, who turned in another stellar performance to put her in the top five performers in the world this year in the 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,<strong> Katie Drabot<\/strong> moved into fourth place in the world this year in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a look at what happened on Sunday:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/2019-santa-clara-international\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COMPLETE MEET COVERAGE<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastlanetek.com\/swmeets\/2019_06_06_SCSC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LIVE RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 200 Fly<\/h2>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s <strong>Katie Drabot<\/strong> opened the final session of the meet with a decisive victory in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Drabot won the race in 2:06.67 to hold off the field by four seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Cal\u2019s <strong>Cassidy Bayer<\/strong> was second in 2:10.70, followed by <strong>Mabel Zavaros<\/strong> (2:11.05), <strong>Summer Smith<\/strong> (2:13.08), <strong>Morgan Gore<\/strong> (2:15.39), <strong>Genevieve Sasseville<\/strong> (2:15.50), <strong>Brynn Wright<\/strong> (2:16.03) and <strong>Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou<\/strong> (2:18.39).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 200 Fly<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Christopher Gore<\/strong> claimed victory in the men\u2019s 200 fly, winning in 2:03.79.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ethan Hu<\/strong> was a close second in 2:04.10.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Chung<\/strong> finished third in 2:05.73, followed by<strong> Brian Wong<\/strong> (2:05.87), <strong>Maximillian Saunders<\/strong> (2:06.88), <strong>Roderick Huang<\/strong> (2:06.96), <strong>Christopher Roling<\/strong> (2:09.20) and<strong> Bertrand Phung<\/strong> (2:01.54).<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 100 Breast<\/h2>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s<strong> Allie Raab<\/strong> put together a strong race to win the 100 breast in 1:08.78.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nina Kucheran<\/strong> finished second in 1:10.54, followed by <strong>Katherine Kustritz<\/strong> (1:11.45), <strong>Claire Beaty<\/strong> (1:11.73), <strong>Skyler Smith<\/strong> (1:12.40), <strong>Jordan Morgan<\/strong> (1:13.27), <strong>Melanie Julia<\/strong> (1:13.54) and <strong>Tessa Cieplucha<\/strong> (1:14.09).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 100 Breast<\/h2>\n<p>In the closest race of the meet, Alto\u2019s <strong>Carl Poppe<\/strong> won the 100 breast in 1:02.86, holding off <strong>Brody Lewis<\/strong> by a mere three hundredths of a second.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eli Wall<\/strong> was third in1:03.08, followed by <strong>Gabe Mastromatteo<\/strong> (1:03.20), <strong>Marco Flores<\/strong> (1:03.65), <strong>Jonathan Cook<\/strong> (1:04.15), <strong>Ben Dillar<\/strong> (1:04.78) and <strong>Matthew Wilcox<\/strong> (1:05.45).<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 200 Free<\/h2>\n<p>California Aquatic\u2019s <strong>Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> continued her strong performance this week by winning the 200 free in 1:56.48.<\/p>\n<p>McLaughlin\u2019s time bettered the field by a second and a half. It makes her the fifth-fastest performer in the world this year behind <strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> (1:54.30), <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> (1:55.39), <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> (1:55.44), <strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong> (1:56.00), and tied with <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> (1:56.48).<\/p>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s <strong>Brooke Forde<\/strong> finished second in 1:58.94. She was the only other swimmer in the field to break 2 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nicole Oliva<\/strong> finished third in 2:01.10, followed by <strong>Miranda Heckman<\/strong> (2:01.58), <strong>Morgan Tankersley<\/strong> (2:01.85), <strong>Keaton Blovad<\/strong> (2:02.87), <strong>Kennedy Goss<\/strong> (2:03.04) and <strong>Brooke Schaffer<\/strong> (2:05.57).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 200 Free<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Colby Mefford<\/strong> dropped more than two and a half seconds off his prelims time to win the 200 free in 1:51.34.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tyler Lu<\/strong> finished second in 1:53.72, followed by <strong>Matthew Driscoll<\/strong> (1:55.02), <strong>Calvin David<\/strong> (1:55.16), <strong>Taito Dacosta<\/strong> (1:55.23), <strong>Lleyton Plattel<\/strong> (1:56.00), <strong>David Mertz<\/strong> (1:56.78) and <strong>Alexander Axon<\/strong> (1:57.81).<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 200 IM<\/h2>\n<p>Cal\u2019s <strong>Alicia Wilson<\/strong> dropped nearly two seconds from her prelims time to win the 200 IM in 2:12.18.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford\u2019s <strong>Brooke Forde<\/strong> was second in 2:14.04 as the only other in the field to break 2:15.<\/p>\n<p>Swim Ontario\u2019s <strong>Tessa Cieplucha<\/strong> finished third in 2:17.40, followed by <strong>Summer Smith<\/strong> (2:17.97), <strong>Mabel<\/strong> <strong>Zavaros<\/strong> (2:18.07), <strong>Chloe Kennedy Isleta<\/strong> (2:20.99), <strong>Nicole Oliva<\/strong> (2:21.86) and <strong>Kaia Li<\/strong> (2:21.95).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 200 IM<\/h2>\n<p>California Aquatic\u2019s <strong>Christopher Jhong w<\/strong>on the 200 IM in 2:04.40, bettering the field by nearly three seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew Chung<\/strong> finished second in 2:07.19, followed by <strong>Taito Dacosta<\/strong> (2:08.44), <strong>Jarod Hatch<\/strong> (2:08.65), <strong>Roderick Huang<\/strong> (2:09.76),<strong> Kaikea Crews<\/strong> (2:09.97), Ben Dillard (2:10.48) and <strong>Alex Ren<\/strong> (2:10.54).<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 50 Back<\/h2>\n<p>Cal\u2019s <strong>Keaton Blovad<\/strong> finished the women\u2019s portion of the meet with a victory in the 50 back.
