The 2019 Australian World Swimming Trials opened today in Brisbane with the first prelims session of the meet.<\/p>\n

Swimmers from Down Under will be vying for spots on the 2019 World Championship team for next month’s worlds in Gwangju, South Korea.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Women’s 100 Fly<\/h2>\nAustralian record-holder Emma McKeon<\/strong> started the meet in strong fashion, earning the top seed for the finals in the 100 fly with a swim of 57.52. Jake Packard<\/strong> managed to nab the preliminary win with a time of 1:00.29, narrowly out-swimming Daniel Cave<\/strong> (1:00.46) and Matthew Wilson<\/strong> (1:00.49), who will prepare to take their spots beside Packard tonight. Despite out-splitting McKeown in the final 50, Bailey was unable to recover from the deficit she conceded in the breaststroke leg of the race. Blair Evans<\/strong> was not to be ignored, as she turned in a 2:15.31 to out-swim Kotuku Ngawati<\/strong> (2:15.71) for third; while Abbey Harkin<\/strong> (2:16.00) and Tessa Wallace<\/strong> (2:16.16) fought for a seed in the top five. Ariane Titmus<\/strong> will be the favorite, as she crashed the pads with a time of 4:09.72, just under Kiah Melverton’s<\/strong> mark of 4:09.95. Madelein Gough<\/strong> will surely be in the pack, as he 4:10.34 earned her a spot in the top three just ahead of Leah Neale<\/strong> (4:10.93).<\/p>\nCarla Buchanan<\/strong> will enter as an under dog, as her time of 4:11.47 landed her at fifth seed.
