The meet began with the distance events. Both the women and the men swam the 800 free today with some major conviction.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 800 Free<\/h2>\n<p>In first was <strong>Tessa Cieplucha<\/strong> of Swim Ontario with a time of 8:42.75 She was followed in a tight race by <strong>Summer Smith<\/strong> of Bluefish Swim Club (8:45.12) and <strong>Megan Byrnes<\/strong> of Alto Swim Club (8:45.15). In fourth was<strong> Daniella Hawkins<\/strong> of Pleasanton Seahawks in a time of 8:54.07. In fifth and sixth was <strong>Nicole Olivia<\/strong> of Santa Clara Swim Club (8:57.54) and <strong>Yi Xuan Chang<\/strong> of Stamford Sailfish Aquatic Club (9:06.07). Rounding out the top eight were <strong>Anna Hein<\/strong> of Bluefish Swim Club (9:06.41) and <strong>Virginie Qian<\/strong> of Santa Clara Swim Club (9:14.94).<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s 800 Free<\/h2>\n<p>In first of the men&#8217;s 800 free at the 2019 Santa Clara International was <strong>Lleton Plattel<\/strong> of Pleasanton Seahawks in a time of 8:14.73. In second was <strong>Alexander Axon<\/strong> of Swim Ontario in a time of 8:29.64. He was followed by<strong> Matthew Chung<\/strong> of Santa Clara Swim<strong> Club<\/strong> (8:31.67),<strong> David Mertz<\/strong> of Neptune Swimming (8:33.11) and <strong>Calvin David<\/strong> of Pleasanton Seahawks in a time of 8:37.95.<strong> Matthew Driscoll<\/strong> of De Anza Cupertino Aquatics was sixth with a time of 8:41.60. <strong>Michael Wheeler<\/strong> of Orinda Aquatics was seventh with a time of 8:42.47 and <strong>Andrew Wang<\/strong> of Pleasanton Seahawks was eighth with a time of 8:42.54.<\/p>\n<p>Check out more club news <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/usa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first night of the 2019 Santa Clara International is underway at the George Haines International Swim Center.
