TUCSON, Arizona, January 3. THE Arizona Wildcats women’s team hosted several teams at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in the past few days for holiday training, and weren’t gracious hosts, judging by the dominating performances at today’s quad meet against Northern Arizona, Oregon State and New Mexico State.<\/p>\n
Arizona beat Oregon State 195-91, blasted Northern Arizona 188-107 and trounced New Mexico State 202-92. Bonnie Brandon was the star of the meet, winning all three of her individual events. Brandon started things off with a 9:59.67 in the 1000 freestyle in the meet’s first event. Typically, the 200 freestyle comes immediately after the 1000 free, but today’s order put the 200 medley relay in between. With a few minutes of rest, Brandon returned to win the 200 free with a 1:49.61 and then handily took the victory in the 200 back with a 2:01.34. The sophomore capped off her meet with a 51.39 on the leadoff leg of the 400 free relay that was .03 slower than the time that teammate Grace Finnegan posted to win the individual 100 free.<\/p>\n
In addition to winning the 100 free, Finnegan also took the 50 free title with a 23.50. She and Brandon were just two of the four multi-event winners for Arizona, which is returning to hard training a month after an impressive showing at the Texas Invitational, where several swimmers qualified for the NCAA championships.<\/p>\n
Emma Schoettmer took both breaststroke events, posting a 1:02.71 in the 100 and 2:14.86 in the 200 breast. Also taking a double today was Elizabeth Pepper, who won the 200 fly first with a 1:59.75 then posted a 55.66 in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n
Taylor Schick was the other individual event winner for Arizona, taking the 100 back with a 56.45.<\/p>\n
Oregon State got two wins today, one by Sammy Harrison in the 500 free with a 4:55.30. With Arizona’s Shannyn Hultin’s 2:07.03 in the 200 IM swum as an exhibition race, Crystal Kibby was able to give Oregon State another win with her 2:07.34.<\/p>\n
New Mexico State got the first-place points in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:34.95, as Arizona swam exhibition on both relays that posted times of 3:27.41 for the A team and 3:27.78 for the B team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
