The Japanese swimmer cited <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-olympic-gold-medalist-kosuke-hagino-pulls-out-of-japanese-nationals-cites-lack-of-hunger-for-next-years-olympics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a lack of motivation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> earlier this spring when he pulled out of the Japan Swim, the country\u2019s first World Championship qualifying meet. He did not compete at this weekend\u2019s Japan Open, the final chance for qualifying for the Japanese roster for this summer. \u201cKosuke Hagino will not be competing at the World Championships this year,\u201d a Hagino representative said in an email to NBC Sports. \u201cHe is taking some time off and will be preparing for next year.\u201d Hagino won the gold medal in the 400 IM in Rio in 2016. He holds the Asian record in the event in 4:06.05. Miller was a former national champion for Fiji in the 100 butterfly. Miller\u2019s career in swimming governance included serving as the Swim Team Manager at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and 1988 Olympic Games, and Chef de Mission of the Fijian team at the 1996 Olympic Games, alongside many other major swimming and multisport events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dennis Miller became Executive Director of the Oceania National Olympic Committees in 1997, as well as President of the Oceania Swimming Association since 2008. Miller also served as a member of the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee for over 10 years before joining the FINA Bureau, where he has been liaison for this discipline. Several of Japan\u2019s finest took the opportunity to put up some quality swims. <\/span><b>Reona Aoki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Yasuhiro Koseki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> kicked things off on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/reona-aoki-yasuhiro-koseki-qualify-for-worlds-at-japan-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first day<\/a> in the 100 breast, punching their tickets with winning times of 1:06.44 and 59.12, respectively. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/yui-ohashi-reaches-world-championship-standard-at-japan-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Yui Ohashi <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also put up some impressive wins in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 100 fly, and 200 fly, continuing to demonstrate her incredible versatility. Highlights included <\/span><b>Hali Flickinger <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posting the #1 time in the world in the 200 fly (2:06.40) and <\/span><b>Katinka Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">doing the same in the 200 IM (2:08.50). \u00a0Canada\u2019s <\/span><b>Sidney Pickrem <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also set a new national record in the 200 IM (2:08.61), finishing just behind Hosszu.
