It was a great showcase for the world&#8217;s best sprinters in three different continents and the athletes were able to win lots of money in the process. Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-talks-training-25s-and-competitor-familiarity-video-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong><\/a>, Hungary&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-on-finding-training-consistencies-after-emotional-2018-video-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Katinka Hosszu <\/strong><\/a>and USA&#8217;s <strong>Michael Andrew <\/strong>won over $100,000 in prize money over the three meets.<\/p>\n<p>They were among 18 swimmers to make it to all three stops of the meet. <strong>Dmitriy Balandin<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Pernille Blume<\/strong>, <strong>Anton Chupkov<\/strong>, <strong>Anthony Ervin<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Robert Glinta<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Joao Gomes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Andriy Govorov<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Molly Hannis<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Felipe Lima<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Danas Rapsys<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mykhailo Romanchuk<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Santos<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Fabio Scozzoli<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Pieter Timmers<\/strong>, Andrew, Hosszu and Sjostrom made it to all three meets.<\/p>\n<p>FINA, the governing body of swimming, launched the &#8220;Champions Swim Series&#8221; as a &#8220;brand new event conceptualized for aquatics champions, with an innovative competition format creating a world-class platform for elite-level swimmers, and developing a fresh focus on the world&#8217;s biggest swimming stars.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Objectives (as outlined by FINA)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>stage the greatest swimming events ever seen<\/li>\n<li>generate international TV, digital and media interest<\/li>\n<li>give high-level swimmers increased attention and appearance<\/li>\n<li>create a world-class platform for swimming.<\/li>\n<li>establish the event as the most important swimming event in the annual calendar after the World Championships and Olympics<\/li>\n<li>use sport as theatre<\/li>\n<li>be a must-have event for cities, broadcasters and sponsors<\/li>\n<li>create a new star-culture in swimming events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whether the FINA Champions Series is to be offered in 2020 remains to be seen. Almost all of the athletes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL6GDV0ydp2CAXzTn762fvuu5ylX3j0itN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interviewed at the meet<\/a> in Indianapolis were in favor of the meet and spoke very highly of it.<\/p>\n<p>First place winners in the individual events won $10,000 while second place won $8,000, third place won $6,000 and fourth place won $5,000. A world record bonus of $20,000 was also on the table but no world records were broken. A total of $29,000 was given out in each individual event and $812,000 per meet.<\/p>\n<p>In relays, the winning relay won $16,000 while second place won $12,000 and third place won $8,000.<\/p>\n<p>*<em>Swimming World is still awaiting confirmation from FINA about the official money list. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The list is as follows (in
