We feel for his family and friends on this terrible day.\u00a0 Tonight we will have a moment of silence to remember him and his contributions.\u00a0 It is a big loss. &#8211;<\/span> <strong>Cornel Marculescu\u00a0 &#8211; Executive Director for FINA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8220;This is very sad news.\u00a0 I first met Dennis as two of the youngest guys on a FINA committee. We started the same time. I will always remember his as an incredible human being. He was a quiet man. But when he spoke, everyone listened.\u00a0 He was a great, great advocate for athletes and athletes safety.\u00a0 Always fair and wise.\u00a0 Great family man.\u00a0 It is great loss for the sport as his contributions and wisdom will be missed.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sid Cassidy &#8211;<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Vice Chairman of<\/span><\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> FINA Open Water Technical Committee<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Statement from FINA<\/p>\n<p><em>As an administrator working behind the scenes, Dennis Miller dedicated his career to the development of Aquatics in Oceania, but also worldwide, within the FINA family.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Hailing from Fiji, Miller was a former national champion in the 100m butterfly. Having studied in Australia, Mr Miller joined the Fijian Public Service and Trade and Investment Board, alongside starting his career in swimming governance, notably being Swim Team Manager at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and 1988 Olympic Games, and Chef de Mission of the Fijian team at the 1996 Olympic Games, alongside many other major swimming and multisport events.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dennis Miller became Executive Director of the Oceania National Olympic Committees in 1997, as well as President of the Oceania Swimming Association since 2008.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Within FINA, Mr Miller also became a Member of the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee in 1997, serving for over 10 years, before joining the FINA Bureau, where he has been liaison for this discipline.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He was presently FINA Vice-President and member of the FINA Executive.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In this moment of grief, FINA addresses its heartfelt condolences to Mr Miller\u2019s family and friends, as well as to the entire Aquatic community in Fiji and Oceania.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Miller was 61 years old and is survived by his wife and three children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dennis Miller of FIJI &#8211;\u00a0 FINA Vice President from Oceania Swimming &#8211; passed at his home in Australia after battling cancer.
