HERNING, Denmark, December 15. WORLD records fell one by one in the relay prelims of the fourth and last day at short course European Championships in Herning, Denmark.<\/p>\n
The start made the Italian team in the first heat of the 4x50m freestyle. The team, consisting of Marco Orsi, Luca Leonardi, Federico Bocchia and Federico Turrini finished in a time of 1:25.89 with split times of 21.28, 21.41, 21.20 and 22.00 respectively.<\/p>\n
However, the record lasted no longer than a few minutes before it was trumped by the Belgian men. Francois Heersbrandt (21.82), Yoris Grandjean (21.16), Pieter Timmers (21.49) and Jasper Aerents (21.05) put together a time of 1:25.52 and are now top seed in the final that gets completed by the teams from Russia, Finland, France, Sweden, Croatia, Israel, Lithuania and Turkey.<\/p>\n
Next came the women’s 4×50 medley relays and they also did their part in adding to the world record swims. First ones were the women from the Czech Republic. Backstroker Simona Baumrtova (26.57), breaststroker Petra Chocova (29.87), Lucie Svecena (25.89) on butterfly and freestyler Aneta Pechancova (25.15) set a new world record of 1:47.48.<\/p>\n
Again, the record wouldn’t last long and this time it was the local team of Denmark that set up a new record time. The team consisting of blazing newcomer Mie Oestergaard Nielsen on backstroke (27.00), Rikke Moeller Pedersen (29.73) on breasstroke, Jeanette Ottesen on butterfly (25.25) and Pernille Blume on freestyle (23.94) put together a time of 1:45.92, declaring themselves the clear favorite to win the event.<\/p>\n
Other teams in the final are Poland, Great Britain, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Finland, France and Slovakia. The teams from Norway, Italy and the Netherlands got disqualified.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
