{"id":370861,"date":"2019-05-24T12:53:57","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T19:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=370861"},"modified":"2019-05-24T12:53:57","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T19:53:57","slug":"landon-marzullo-hired-as-wisconsin-diving-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/landon-marzullo-hired-as-wisconsin-diving-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Landon Marzullo Hired as Wisconsin Diving Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A decorated competitor on the boards and a rising star in the coaching ranks, <strong>Landon<\/strong> <strong>Marzullo<\/strong> has been selected to lead the Wisconsin diving program.<\/p>\n<p>UW swimming and diving head coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/after-cal-apprenticeship-yuri-suguiyama-gets-his-chance-at-wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yuri Suguiyama<\/a><\/strong> announced the hire of Marzullo on Friday.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>&#8220;Through my conversations with both Landon and his colleagues in the diving community, it became clear that he was exactly what we were looking for,&#8221; Suguiyama said. &#8220;His experience in developing conference champions and NCAA qualifiers, combined with his passion for coaching and ensuring an awesome student-athlete experience, make him the perfect fit for us. I&#8217;m excited for him to immediately impact our program at the conference and NCAA level, and for our student-athletes to have the opportunity to work with him.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re thrilled to welcome Landon, his wife Jennifer and his daughter Mia into the Badger family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Marzullo comes to Madison following three seasons as diving coach at UNLV, where he helped the Rebels produce their first NCAA qualifiers in decades.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I couldn\u2019t be more excited to join the UW swimming and diving staff. It has always been a dream of mine to coach in the Big Ten, and I want to thank Yuri and the rest of the Badger staff for making this possible,&#8221; Marzullo said. &#8220;It is an exciting time for Wisconsin swimming and diving with the new facility coming this year. With this excellent staff and the overall support for the swimming and diving program, the sky is the limit for this team. I can\u2019t wait to get right to work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Marzullo was named Western Athletic Conference Diving Coach of the Year in 2019 and mentored freshman <strong>Tazman Abramowicz<\/strong> to WAC titles in the men&#8217;s 3-meter and platform events. Abramowicz became UNLV&#8217;s first NCAA championships qualifier in men&#8217;s diving in more than 30 years. In 2018, Marzullo helped <strong>Myka Fielding<\/strong> become the Rebels&#8217; first female NCAA qualifier in more than 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>During his time in Las Vegas, Marzullo also served as head coach of Rebel Diving Club. His coaching career began as a volunteer assistant at Ohio State in 2012-13. He also has worked as a high diver for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.<\/p>\n<p>On his way to becoming a 10-time All-American, including four first-team All-America finishes at the NCAA championships, Marzullo competed collegiately at Indiana and Florida State. He was named Big Ten Diver of the Year and Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2008 after sweeping the conference titles on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard for the Hoosiers in his rookie season. He was named All-ACC in each of his two seasons at Florida State.<\/p>\n<p>Marzullo was a six-time junior national champion and claimed gold on platform at the 2005 Pan Am Junior Championships.
