O&#8217;Neill joins the Crimson after a three-and-a-half year tenure with American Flyers Diving and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled to welcome Matt O&#8217;Neill as our head coach for diving,&#8221; said <strong>Bob Scalise<\/strong>, The John D. Nichols &#8217;53 Family Director of Athletics. &#8220;Matt has a strong background developing student-athletes, and we believe he will be a terrific leader and mentor for our divers at Harvard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;I am honored and excited to be the next Harvard diving coach,&#8221; O&#8217;Neill said. &#8220;With the recent success of both the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s programs, along with the team&#8217;s young talent, I look forward to partnering with the coaching staff to bring the programs to the next level. Having the opportunity to work with exceptional student-athletes and help them grow will be the ultimate reward.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>O&#8217;Neill led American Flyers Diving to a fifth-place overall finish, including a victory for the boys team, at the 2018 USA Diving Junior National Championship, including a pair of individual national champions. Over his four years with the club, he coached three different national champions. He was also the head coach at Case Western Reserve from 2015-19, where he mentored one All-American and University Athletic Association Diver of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are excited to welcome Matt O&#8217;Neill to the Harvard swimming and diving family,&#8221; said <strong>Stephanie Wriede Morawski<\/strong> &#8217;92, The Costin Family Head Coach for Harvard Women&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving, and K<strong>evin Tyrrell<\/strong>, The Ulen-Brooks Endowed Coach for Harvard Men&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving. &#8220;His experience on both the club and collegiate level combined with his enthusiasm, energy and positivity will enable us to recruit and develop student-athletes at the highest level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Neill was a four-year varsity diver at West Virginia, and was the program record holder in the one-meter and three-meter springboards until 2017.
