AUSTIN, Texas, December 7. THE last night of the Texas Invite saw some of the fastest times in the country, with Arizona and USC posting several impressive wins each.<\/p>\n
On the women’s side, UCLA’s Lauren Baker touched first in the mile, with a time of 16:06.86. Texas’ Kaitlin Pawlowicz clocked in at 16:12.39 for second, and Penn State’s Megan Silverling hit the wall third at 16:17.75.<\/p>\n
Bonnie Brandon notched her third victory of the weekend in the 200 back with a time of 1:50.70. That time qualifies her for NCAA championships and is the third fastest collegiate time in the country this season. USC’s Kendyl Stewart was second at 1:53.10, while Texas’ Tasija Karosas touched third at 1:54.32.<\/p>\n
The 100 free saw the two fastest collegiate swims of the season. USC’s Kasey Carlson (47.22) edged out Arizona’s Margo Geer (47.35) for the win, with both swimmers earning NCAA A-cuts. Penn State’s Alyson Ackman clocked in third with a time of 48.85.<\/p>\n
Bluefish and former Longhorn swimmer Laura Sogar got the win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.01. Arizona’s Emma Schoettmer placed second with a 2:08.44, and Stina Gardell of USC was third with a time of 2:09.75.<\/p>\n
Jasmine Tosky took the 200 fly in a time of 1:53.84. That time earned her an NCAA A-cut and is the second fastest collegiate time of the season. UCLA’s Noelle Tarazona touched second in 1:56.55, and UCSB’s Andrea Ward finished third with a time of 1:56.79.<\/p>\n
The top three teams in the 400 free relay closed out the meet with A-cuts. Arizona’s team of Bonnie Brandon, Margo Geer, Leticia Lelli, and Taylor Schick posted a 3:14.05 for first, including a blazing 46.59 split from Geer. USC finished just behind them, with the team of Kasey Carlson, Kendyl Stewart, Katarzyna Wilk, and Chelsea Chenault touching the wall in 3:14.32. Hosts Texas also earned an A-cut, with the team of Sam Tucker, Ellen Lobb, Lily Moldenhauer, and Gretchen Jaques clocking in at 3:15.93 for third place.<\/p>\n
On the men’s side, former Longhorn Michael McBroom got the win in the mile with a time of 14:31.73. Texas’ Sam Lewis hit the wall in 15:00.30 for second, while USC’s Ted Singley came in third at 15:06.21.<\/p>\n
Texas freshman Jack Conger clipped reigning NCAA champion Drew Teduits of Wisconsin in the 200 back. Conger clocked in at 1:40.90 for the third fastest time this season, and Teduits’ time of 1:41.16 was good for second place and an NCAA A-cut. Penn State’s Nate Savoy touched third with a time of 1:42.26.<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Brad Tandy doubled up on the sprint freestyles with a win in the 100 free (42.71). Former Longhorn Jimmy Feigen touched in 42.74 for second, just ahead of training partner Caleb Weir (42.86).<\/p>\n
Kevin Cordes of Arizona had another spectacular swim in the 200 breaststroke, hitting the wall in 1:49.38. That’s the fastest time in the country by far and only seven tenths of a second off his own American, NCAA, and US Open record. His teammate Sam Rowan clocked in at 1:55.59 for second, touching out Texas’ Will Licon (1:55.61) and Incarnate Word’s Thiago Parravic (1:55.64).<\/p>\n
Arizona’s Michael Meyer got his third win of the meet in the 200 fly with a time of 1:43.82. USC’s Michael Domagala hit the wall second at 1:45.05, just edging out Harvard’s Jacob Luna (1:45.07).<\/p>\n
The hosts ended the meet with a victory and an A-cut in the 400 free relay. Texas’ team of Matt Ellis, John Murray, Caleb Weir clocked in at 2:51.50 for first place. USC also earned an A-cut, with the team of Christian Quintero, Santo Condorelli, Jack Wagner, and Dimitri Colupaev touching in 2:53.10.
