Every year, Swimming World Magazine uses the December issue to name the World and Regional Swimmers of the Year. This year, Hungary dominated the awards in the European sector, with Katina Hosszu winning Swimming World Magazine’s regional swimmer of the year for the women and Daniel Gyurta for the men. <\/p>\n
Gyurta earned the title — his first ever — just ahead of France’s Yannick Agnel, Germany’s Thomas Lurz and Greece’s Spyridon Gianniotis. He was chosen for recognition by Swimming World’s panel of experts primarily because of his world record-chasing World Championship effort in the 200 breaststroke in Barcelona. <\/p>\n
