Cox faced more of a challenge, as she worked to fend off Megan Byrnes (4:13.28) throughout the race in order to set a precedent for tonight’s finals swim. Despite an impressive closing 50, Byrnes conceded second and used her remaining energy to box Brooke Forde (4:13.54) out of the middle lanes, with Sierra Schmidt following close behind (4:13.96).

Hannah Moore fed off her fresh confidence from last night’s swim, dropping a 4:14.22 this morning to take down Aly McHugh (4:14.63). Joanna Evans flexed her middle-distance muscle with an impressive 4:14.65 to round out a close and loaded heat.

Event 11 Women 400 LC Meter Freestyle
==================================================================
World: W 3:56.46  8/7/2016  Katie Ledecky, USA
American: A 3:56.46  8/7/2016  Katie Ledecky, USA
U.S. Open: O 3:57.94  5/17/2018 Katie Ledecky, Stanford
Jr World: 3:58.37 8/23/2014 Katie Ledecky, USA
Pro Swim: P 3:57.94 5/17/2018 Katie Ledecky, Stanford Swimmin
Trial Cut: T 4:16.89
Name Age Team Seed Prelims FINA
==================================================================
=== Round 1 ===

1 Katie Ledecky    22 Nation's Capital  3:57.94    4:02.40T q928
r:+0.69  28.54        59.01 (30.47)
1:29.82 (30.81)     2:00.46 (30.64)
2:31.19 (30.73)     3:01.74 (30.55)
3:32.68 (30.94)     4:02.40 (29.72)
2 Madisyn Cox      23 Longhorn Aquatic  4:13.71    4:11.58T q830
r:+0.69  29.42      1:01.21 (31.79)
1:33.40 (32.19)     2:05.31 (31.91)
2:37.07 (31.76)     3:08.26 (31.19)
3:40.38 (32.12)     4:11.58 (31.20)
3 Megan Byrnes     20 Unattached        4:11.01    4:13.28T q813
r:+0.76  30.35      1:02.07 (31.72)
1:34.23 (32.16)     2:06.40 (32.17)
2:38.37 (31.97)     3:10.30 (31.93)
3:42.32 (32.02)     4:13.28 (30.96)
4 Brooke Forde     20 Unattached        4:11.93    4:13.54T q811
r:+0.68  29.65      1:01.18 (31.53)
1:33.16 (31.98)     2:05.91 (32.75)
2:37.89 (31.98)     3:10.17 (32.28)
3:41.84 (31.67)     4:13.54 (31.70)
5 Sierra Schmidt   21 Univ.
