State and Louisville, the psych sheet was quite the mosaic of America’s best. Going largely unchallenged in the regular collegiate season, the Wolf Pack’s Hannah Moore was seeded to take it all, but Chile’s Kristel Kobrich promised a competitive race. Similarly, Zane Grothe was poised to dominate from the center lane, but not without the threat of outside smoke. Despite the nature of the race, spectators were engaged in each of the 1500 meters that seemed to jumpstart the competitive long-course season, as athletes set Bloomington aflame on Day 1.

Live Results

Swimming World TYR Pro Series Page

Women’s 1500 Free

Moore refused to disappoint, as she split a near-perfect race to crash the pads with a 16:11.42. Under three seconds off her seed time, Moore seized first with ease, coming home the last 100 in a 1:03.64 to widen the gap between herself and Kobrich.

After Moore began to manhandle the field, Kobrich was forced to turn her attention to the adjacent lane, as Becca Mann stayed on her hip in a decided effort to battle for second. The last lap appeared more like a sprint race, as the women went stroke for stroke to the wall. Kobrich managed to mirror the psych sheet and cinch second with a time of 16:23.19, edging out Mann’s 16:25.49.

Sierra Schmidt brought in the next wave, posting a 16:33.67 to nab fourth ahead of Cassy Jernberg (16:38.48). Cierra Runge posted a time well under the Trials cut, as she and Kaitlyn Sims gassed the last 50 to post times of 16:46.12 and 16:46.35, respectively. Hayley Pike rounded out the top eight with a time of 16:57.07, the first woman outside the 16:49.19 Trials cutoff.

Event 1 Women 1500 LC Meter Freestyle
==================================================================
World: W 15:20.48 5/16/2018 Katie Ledecky, USA
American: A 15:20.48 5/16/2018 Katie Ledecky, Stanford
U.S. Open: O 15:20.48 5/16/2018 Katie Ledecky, Stanford
Jr World: 15:28.36 8/24/2014 Katie Ledecky, USA
Pro Swim: P 15:20.48 5/16/2018 Katie Ledecky, Stanford Swimmin
Trial Cut: T 16:49.19
Name Age Team Seed Finals FINA
==================================================================
1 Hannah Moore 22 Wolfpack Elite/N 16:08.68 16:11.42T 850
r:+0.70 30.13 1:02.38 (32.25)
1:30.28 (27.90) 2:07.62 (37.34)
2:40.27 (32.65) 3:12.93 (32.66)
3:45.72 (32.79) 4:18.33 (32.61)
4:51.26 (32.93) 5:23.78 (32.52)
5:56.50 (32.72) 6:28.99 (32.49)
7:01.78 (32.79) 7:34.41 (32.63)
8:06.98 (32.57) 8:39.44 (32.46)
9:11.96 (32.52) 9:44.30 (32.34)
10:16.72 (32.42) 10:49.12 (32.40)
11:21.60 (32.48) 11:53.82 (32.22)
12:26.11 (32.29) 12:58.41 (32.30)
13:30.71 (32.30) 14:02.89 (32.18)
14:35.55 (32.66) 15:07.78 (32.23)
15:40.23 (32.45) 16:11.42 (31.19)
2 Kristel Kobrich 33 Chile 16:10.93 16:23.19 820
r:+0.81 31.18 1:03.63 (32.45)
1:36.78 (33.15) 2:09.32 (32.54)
2:42.25 (32.93) 3:14.90 (32.65)
3:47.83 (32.93) 4:20.50 (32.67)
4:53.62 (33.12) 5:26.23 (32.61)
5:59.21 (32.98) 6:31.70 (32.49)
7:04.74 (33.04) 7:37.29 (32.55)
8:10.29 (33.00) 8:42.77 (32.48)
9:15.65 (32.88) 9:48.18 (32.53)
10:21.11 (32.93) 10:53.52 (32.41)
11:26.38 (32.86) 11:59.03 (32.65)
12:32.13 (33.10) 13:04.92 (32.79)
13:38.16 (33.24) 14:11.04 (32.88)
14:44.39 (33.35) 15:17.46 (33.07)
15:50.84 (33.38) 16:23.19 (32.35)
3 Becca Mann 21 Unattached 16:24.49 16:25.49T 814
r:+0.78 30.65 1:03.65 (33.00)
1:36.37 (32.72) 2:09.54 (33.17)
2:37.13 (27.59) 3:15.84 (38.71)
3:48.86 (33.02) 4:21.86 (33.00)
4:54.62 (32.76) 5:27.59 (32.97)
6:00.41 (32.82) 6:33.43 (33.02)
7:06.16 (32.73) 7:39.26 (33.10)
8:12.01 (32.75) 8:45.03 (33.02)
9:17.54 (32.51) 9:50.59 (33.05)
10:22.99 (32.40) 10:55.91 (32.92)
11:28.54 (32.63) 12:01.90 (33.36)
12:34.46 (32.56) 13:07.90 (33.44)
13:41.01 (33.11) 14:14.33 (33.32)
14:47.11 (32.78) 15:20.45 (33.34)
15:53.27 (32.82) 16:25.49 (32.22)
4 Sierra Schmidt 21 Univ. Mikey Calvillo brought in the second wave, surging home to post a 15:40.94, the last man under the Olympic Trials cut. Will Roberts broke into the top five with a 15:46.91 to beat Ford Blaylock (15:55.16), who edged out Jake Mitchell (15:56.67) in a sprint-like race to the finish. Hayden Curley rounded out a loaded heat with a time of 16:07.66 in the far lane.

Event 2 Men 1500 LC Meter Freestyle
==================================================================
World: W 14:31.02 8/4/2012 Yang Sun, CHN
American: A 14:39.48 8/13/2016 Connor Jaeger, USA
U.S. Open: O 14:45.54 7/6/2008 Peter Vanderkaay, Club Wolverine
Jr World: 14:51.55 4/6/2014 Mack Horton, USA
Pro Swim: P 14:53.12 2016 Jordan Wilimovsky
Trial Cut: T 15:44.89
Name Age Team Seed Finals FINA
==================================================================
1 Zane Grothe 27 Boulder City Hen 14:48.40 15:17.12T 856
r:+0.69 27.82 58.17 (30.35)
1:25.13 (26.96) 1:59.87 (34.74)
2:30.75 (30.88) 3:01.40 (30.65)
3:32.31 (30.91) 4:03.13 (30.82)
4:34.23 (31.10) 5:05.08 (30.85)
5:36.26 (31.18) 6:07.23 (30.97)
6:38.34 (31.11) 7:09.32 (30.98)
7:40.05 (30.73) 8:10.86 (30.81)
8:41.52 (30.66) 9:12.34 (30.82)
9:43.14 (30.80) 10:13.78 (30.64)
10:44.69 (30.91) 11:15.39 (30.70)
11:46.25 (30.86) 12:16.94 (30.69)
12:47.66 (30.72) 13:18.07 (30.41)
13:48.91 (30.84) 14:19.55 (30.64)
14:49.98 (30.43) 15:17.12 (27.14)
2 Marcelo Acosta 22 Univ Louisville 15:04.79 15:28.66 825
r:+0.70 28.12 58.66 (30.54)
1:29.45 (30.79) 2:00.36 (30.91)
2:31.51 (31.15) 3:02.93 (31.42)
3:34.52 (31.59) 4:05.64 (31.12)
4:37.11 (31.47) 5:08.17 (31.06)
5:39.47 (31.30) 6:10.51 (31.04)
6:42.09 (31.58) 7:13.18 (31.09)
7:44.89 (31.71) 8:15.95 (31.06)
8:47.23 (31.28) 9:18.27 (31.04)
9:49.60 (31.33) 10:20.86 (31.26)
10:51.95 (31.09) 11:22.87 (30.92)
11:54.15 (31.28) 12:25.29 (31.14)
12:56.71 (31.42) 13:27.48 (30.77)
13:58.76 (31.28) 14:29.53 (30.77)
14:59.48 (29.95) 15:28.66 (29.18)
3 Ricardo Vargas 21 Univ.
