Joseph Schooling<\/strong> continues to pile up honors in Singapore \u2014 now at a record pace.<\/p>\n

The Olympic gold medalist was named the Sportsman of the Year by the Singapore Sports Awards this weekend.<\/p>\n

It is the fifth year in a row he has earned the distinction and sixth overall \u2014 a record for the award. Swimmer Patricia Chan<\/strong> and table tennis athlete Li Jaiwei<\/strong> each earned the honor five times.<\/p>\n

Schooling won the 50 fly and 100 fly at the 2018 Asian Games and was part of two bronze medal relays for Singapore at the meet.<\/p>\n

The other finalists for the award were Gao Ning<\/strong> and Sheik Farhan Sheik Alau\u2019ddin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The best event award went to the FINA Swimming World Cup Singapore 2018.<\/p>\n

Last year<\/a>, Schooling won after a strong NCAA performance.<\/p>\n

Schooling capped his stellar collegiate career at Texas in March with an All-American performance in the 100 butterfly. He helped the Longhorns won their fourth consecutive NCAA championship.<\/p>\n

Joseph Schooling made history by becoming Singapore\u2019s first Olympic champion in 2016 by claiming gold in the Men\u2019s 100m Butterfly.<\/p>\n

Schooling has achieved a decorated college career having won multiple medals at the NCAA Championships and he became the first swimmer to medal for Singapore at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 FINA World Championships.<\/p>\n
