CASTELLON, Spain, November 29. ACCORDING to the Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN), Mireia Belmonte Garcia has smashed the short course world record in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle.<\/p>\n

Belmote Garcia raced to a 15:26.95 to demolish Lotte Friis’ world record of 15:28.65. That gives Belmonte Garcia a sweep of the 400-800-1500 freestyle world records currently. Maria Vilas Vidal took second in 16:01.84, while Claudia Dasca Romeu placed third in 16:24.99.<\/p>\n

It’s definitely been a profitable short course season so far for Belmonte Garcia, who took third in the FINA World Cup circuit and finished with $119,500 in race winnings, including $20,000 from her pair of world records in the 400 and 800 freestyle earlier this summer.<\/p>\n

In other action, Alan Cabello Forns claimed the men’s 100 IM in 55.03, while Evelyn Alvarez Perez took home the women’s 100 IM in 1:02.50, touching our Jessica Vall Montero (1:02.63) in the process.<\/p>\n

Manuel Martin Victor took down the Spanish record in the men’s 200 free with a 1:44.42. That swim clipped Albert Medrano’s 1:44.45 from 2009. Mercedes Peris Minguet dominated the women’s 50 back in 27.39, while Miguel Ozeki topped the men’s 50 back in 23.53.<\/p>\n
