CHRISTIANSBURG, Virginia, November 24. VIRGINIA Tech swept the team titles last night as the H2Okie Fall Invitational came to a close in Christiansburg. Highlighting the third night of competition was Virginia Tech’s Weronika Paluszek’s swim in the 200 breast. She set a new school, pool and ACC record in the event with a 2:08.54. <\/p>\n

The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams both took home team victories on Saturday evening, as the H2Okies roared to a pair of dominant wins at the 2013 H2Okies Fall Invitational.<\/p>\n
After leaping out to large leads in the first two days of the event, both the men and women took home large victories at the three-day event.<\/p>\n
On the women’s side, sophomore Weronika Paluszek highlighted the third day, clocking a 2:08.54 in the 200 Breast, setting a new pool, school and Atlantic Coast Conference record en route to a first-place finish.
\nThe H2Okies took the top two spots in the 400 Freestyle, while freshmen Maggie Gruber (2:00.10) and Fiona Donnelly (2:02.19) took first and third in the 200 Butterfly.<\/p>\n
The women captured three wins on the day to go with nine top-three finishes. In all the H2Okies, racked up 1018.5 points across the three days, topping South Carolina (509.5 points) in second and William & Mary (369.5) in third.<\/p>\n
For the men, junior Morgan Latimer picked up another win, this one in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:44.39, just ahead of junior Nick Tremols (1:46.85) in third place.<\/p>\n
Junior Owen Burns also took home a win, clocking a 1:58.55 in the 200 Breaststroke, while senior Emmett Dignan finished third with a time of 2:01.52. Junior Jake Ores was first in the 1650 Freestyle in 15:21.88.
\nThe men’s team won five of the six events on the evening and racked up 11 top-three finishes en route to 972 points and a team victory. South Carolina was second with 728 points, while UConn and William & Mary tied for third with 401.<\/p>\n
“We are very pleased with our team’s performances this weekend,” Head Coach Ned Skinner said. “The swimmers and divers came together and fed off each other all weekend, and that’s when we’re at our best. Weronika’s ACC record is a great accomplishment for a committed student-athlete.”<\/p>\n
This weekend’s meet wrapped up the H2Okies’ 2013 fall schedule, as Tech will not be back in action until Jan. 4, 2014 when they travel to face Buffalo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
