WUPPERTAL, Germany, November 23. THE German Short Course Nationals produced a bunch of national age group records this evening in Wuppertal, along with a few top 10 performances in the world rankings. <\/p>\n
Franziska Hentke, who stands fourth in the world this year with a 2:04.33 from the Berlin stop of the FINA World Cup, dominated the women’s 200-meter fly finale tonight in 2:06.11. Lena Kalla touched second in 2:08.66, while Lisa Hopink posted an age group record of 2:09.38 for third overall. <\/p>\n
Steffen Deibler, who is ranked third in the rankings with a 46.20 from the Berlin stop of the FINA World Cup, won the men’s 100 free in 47.83. Maximilian Oswald picked up second place in 48.20, while Tim-Thorben Suck finished third in 48.21. Damian Wierling, 17, lowered a German age group standard with a fifth-place 48.89. <\/p>\n
Tim Wallburger jumped into the top 10 in the world in the men’s 200 fly with a winning time of 1:53.46, about a half-a-second back of ninth-ranked Masaki Kaneko’s 1:52.89 from the Tokyo stop of the FINA World Cup. Robin Backhaus finished second in 1:55.38, while Markus Gierke claimed third in 1:55.81. Alexander Kunert downed an age group mark with a fourth-place time of 1:55.93. <\/p>\n
Christian Diener turned in another top-10 time as he won the men’s 200 back in 1:52.11 to move to 10th overall behind Tom Shields’ 1:51.64 in the rankings. Felix Wolf finished second in 1:53.47, while Jan-Philip Glania picked up third in 1:53.86. <\/p>\n
Dorothea Brandt nearly bettered her seventh-ranked 30.11 in the women’s 50 breast with a winning 30.25 for the win this evening. Caroline Ruhnau finished second in 30.66, while 16-year-old Margarethe Hummel popped a third-place 31.32 for an age group record. <\/p>\n
Another near season best went to Hendrik Feldwehr, who won the men’s 50 breast in 26.64. That’s just off his fourth-ranked 26.37 from the Berlin World Cup stop. Marco Koch placed second in 27.03, while Erik Steinhagen snared third in 27.05. <\/p>\n
Koch, already a winner of a pair of events this week, picked up another victory as he clocked a 53.29 in the men’s 100 IM. Ensar Hajder tied Philip Heintz for second with matching 53.89s. Doris Eichhorn followed in the women’s 50 back with a 27.35 for the win. Julia Leidgebel took down the age group record for 18 year olds with a second-place 27.68, while 17-year-old Mandy Feldbinder posted an age group record of her own with a third-place 27.76. <\/p>\n
Soren Meissner continued his dominance in the distance events as he topped the men’s 1500 free in 14:41.03. Jacob Heidtmann took second in 14:42. 83, while Florian Vogel picked up third in 14:46.47. Theresa Michalak then won the women’s 200 IM in 2:09.01. Kathrin Demler (2:10.49) and Julia Leidgebel (2:11.95) claimed second and third. <\/p>\n
