COLLEGE STATION, Texas, November 22. THE bulk of the speed at the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station took place on the women’s side as Stanford and host Texas A&M turned in a handful of NCAA A cuts.<\/p>\n
Stanford’s A team of Maddy Schaefer (21.87), Felicia Lee (21.98), Alex Whitford (22.27) and Lia Neal (21.76) opened up the night in strong fashion by smashing the NCAA A cut in the women’s 200-yard free relay with a 1:27.88. That’s nearly two seconds stronger than the qualifying time of 1:29.65. Schaefer’s leadoff leg also qualified her for the NCAA Championships, beating the 50 free A cut in the process. <\/p>\n
Texas A&M’s Erica Dittmer (22.35), Sammie Bosma (22.08), Breeja Larson (22.04) and Lili Ibanez Lopez (21.55) also beat the NCAA A cut with a 1:28.02 for second-place honors as Ibanez Lopez closed hard down the stretch. SMU’s Isabella Arcila (23.00), Nathalie Lindborg (22.70), Monika Babok (22.10) and Nina Rangelova (22.36) placed third in 1:30.16. <\/p>\n
Another NCAA A cut went up on the board in the women’s 200-yard IM as Stanford’s Maya DiRado blitzed the field with a 1:53.50. That’s her lifetime best, lower than the 1:53.86 she posted at last year’s NCAA Championships. Lee, meanwhile, placed second in 1:56.17 with Dittmer taking third for A&M with a 1:56.41. Schaeffer just missed lowering her seed in the 50 free during the individual swim with a 21.78 for the win. Ibanez Lopez took second in 22.24, while Dittmer placed third in 22.31. <\/p>\n
DiRado charted another NCAA A cut, this time as the relay leadoff of Stanford’s sizzling women’s 400 medley relay. DIRado (51.90), Katie Olsen (59.87), Lee (51.66) and Schaefer (47.30) combined for a blistering 3:30.73, less than a second off the Cardinal’s fourth-place 3:30.06 from NCAAs last year. <\/p>\n
Stanford’s depth proved even more ridiculous as the B team of Annemarie Thayer (53.23), Sarah Haase (59.89), Nicole Stafford (52.75) and Neal (47.15) also cleared the A cut with a second-place 3:33.02 tie with Texas A&M’s Paige Miller (52.56), Breeja Larson (59.03), Bosma (53.21) and Ibanez Lopez (48.31). <\/p>\n
A&M’s Cammile Adams cruised to victory in the 500-yard free with a 4:38.52, while Stanford’s Andie Taylor earned second in 4:41.81. Sarah Henry rounded out the top three for the Aggies with a 4:42.99 with the top three all beating the NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n
On the men’s side of the equation, A&M’s Henrik Lindau (20.28), Kyle Troskot (19.14), Cory Bolleter (19.92) and Paul-Marc Schweitzer (19.65) won the men’s 200 free relay in 1:18.99. LSU’s Marco Gonzalez (20.17), Michael Saco (19.69), Alex Linge (19.92) and Tyler Crosson (19.75) finished second in 1:19.53, while Air Force’s George Frank (20.1), Ryan Dunne (19.58), Micah Newmann (20.66) and Angus MacDonald (20.04) took third in 1:21.19. <\/p>\n
A&M’s Omar Enrique collected a B cut in the 500 free with a 4:23.43 for the win. Air Force’s Kevin Jackson took second in 4:26.48, while TCU’s Sebastian Arispe earned third in 4:26.83. A&M’s Simon Frank followed with a 1:48.51 to 1:48.61 touchout ahead of LSU’s Frank Greeff as the two cleared the B cut in the 200 IM. TCU’s Cooper Robinson took third in 1:49.10. <\/p>\n
Two more B cuts went up on the scoreboard in the 50 free as Troskot (19.69) and Lindau (19.90) placed first and second in the sprint. Air Force’s Dunne took third in 20.22. <\/p>\n
Air Force’s Angus MacDonald (48.34), Michael Barnosky (53.88), Paul Leonhardt (48.61) and Dunne (43.29) won the men’s 400 medley relay in 3:14.12, while LSU’s Michael Young (48.18), Gabriel Rooker (55.38), Greeff (47.76) and Linge (44.02) took second in 3:15.34. A&M’s Lindau (47.97), Jack Burley (55.82), Troskot (47.93) and Bolleter (44.51) picked up third in 3:16.23. <\/p>\n
In diving, Stanford’s Stephanie Phipps won the three-meter with 357.55 points, while LSU’s Alex Bettridge (324.35) and Cassie Weil (323.30) finished second and third. Stanford’s Kristian Ipsen tallied 407.50 in the men’s one-meter, while teammate Connor Kuremsky took second with 378.15 points. SMU’s Devin Burnett placed third with 371.40 points. <\/p>\n
