Junior World Champion<\/a> and Virginia Tech commit<\/a> Chase Travis<\/strong> of the Nation’s Capital Swim Club was the USA Junior National Champion<\/a> in the women’s 5K race at the 2019 Open Water National Championships. She later placed twelfth in the senior race<\/a>, becoming the only swimmer to finish atop the ranks in all three events at these Championships.<\/p>\n

Women’s Junior 5K Results<\/a><\/p>\n

Travis has become one of USA’s most consistent open water swimmers. This time around, she won the junior race by nineteen seconds. In a post-race interview, Travis explained her decision to compete in the Junior National event and the Senior event after placing ninth in the 10K<\/a>. She was eighth among Americans in the Olympic distance.<\/p>\n

“I think I swam pretty well. I think I did what I had to do to after yesterday’s 10K to prepare for this 5K today…I think it’s great what USA Swimming is doing with bringing juniors into the open water side so I always like to participate if I can.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Chase Travis also took time to talk about her training leading up to the event, her recovery tips for a quick turnaround and missing out on the dolphins and stingrays throughout the races.<\/p>\n
