KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, November 17. TENNESSEE head coach Matt Kredich has been knocking international recruiting out of the park, and especially did well at the FINA Junior World Championships this summer, as Slovenian breaststroke star Peter John Stevens just signed with the Volunteers.<\/p>\n
While most of Tennessee’s signees are already known via their verbal commitments, Stevens just made his decision this weekend. That’s the fourth gold medalist from international junior events in the past year that have signed with the Vols along with David Heron, Evan Pinion and Luke Percy.<\/p>\n
“I have decided to join the family of Tennessee and to became a Tennessee Vol!” Stevens emailed Swimming World about his decision. “My choice of going to University of Tennessee is the will of being able to go to the Olympic Games in Rio and Tennessee is an ideal place to achieve that!”<\/p>\n
Stevens clocked a sizzling 27.74 to win the junior world title this past summer in Dubai in the 50-meter breaststroke, and also clocked a 1:03.64 in the 100-meter event. <\/p>\n
Along with Heron, Pinion and Percy, UT has continued to cultivate its international connections that include adding Polish Olympian Kacper Majchrzak in last year’s class. <\/p>\n
All that is left for Tennessee to have a turn-around class on the men’s team, having undergone a massive transformation since the controversial ousting of former head coach John Trembley, is for the Vols to get that one big domestic recruit.
