NEW YORK, New York, November 16. FOLLOWING their victory over Yale last night, the Columbia women’s swimming and diving team posted another win over the University of Pennsylvania today to move to 3-0 in Ivy League matchups. That marks the first time in program history the Lions have started 3-0. <\/p>\n

For the first time in program history, the Columbia women’s swimming and diving team moved to 3-0 in Ivy League play after defeating Penn, 166-134, at Uris Pool on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Lions captured 11 of 16 events to hand the 1-0 Quakers its first loss of the season.<\/p>\n
Columbia jumped out to an early lead taking the opening pair of events. Kathleen Furr had a big day on the boards taking the 3 meter dive with a tally of 262.05 points. The Columbia 200 medley relay squad of Gabrielle Toback, Jennifer Shahar, Christina Ray and Salena Huang, followed with the second win of the day. The foursome combined for a winning time of 1:42.17.<\/p>\n
Toback grabbed the first individual win for the Lions with a solid performance in the 100 backstroke at 55.00. For the second straight Ivy League meet, the first-year swam for the crown in the event. Shahar kept the momentum going in the 100 breaststroke, hitting the wall first with a time of 1:02.89.<\/p>\n
Kristine Ng added a win in the 200 butterfly at 2:01.02, beating out teammate Trudi Patrick who finished with a second place time of 2:01.96. Ng went on to post two wins on the day with her second victory coming in the 200 breaststroke. She led the Lions with a time of 2:19.37, followed by runner-up Celia Frick at 2:21.31.<\/p>\n
In the 100 fly, Patrick was impressive behind a winning time of 54.97. Teammate Christina Ray hit the wall next in a time of 55.12. Mallory Mckeon represented the Columbia distance swimmers well in the 500 freestyle. The sophomore aided the win with a first-place time of 4:56.79.<\/p>\n
After a runner-up finish in the 3m dive, Menz returned in the 1m dive to capture the event with a total of 274.79. Furr finished third in the 1m event with a tally of 247.35. Alena Kluge capped the day taking the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.71.<\/p>\n
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 23 as they travel to New Jersey to compete in the annual Rutgers Invitational.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
