No Ledecky… No Manuel… No Problem<\/span><\/h2>\n
AUSTIN, Texas<\/h5>\n

Stanford won its third straight team title at the women\u2019s NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships, March 20-23, but it was not as easy as the first two. Without the luxury of Olympians Simone Manuel and Katie Ledecky scoring boatloads of points, Stanford had to rely on a younger team. Of its 16 total swimmers, 10 of them were underclassmen.<\/p>\n

Just like the previous two meets, the University of California\u2014Stanford\u2019s San Francisco Bay area rivals\u2014was the Cardinal\u2019s closest pursuer. Cal finished runner-up in 2017, trailing by 160.5 points, and in 2018 by 220. But this year at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, the margin was only 37.5 points, 456.5 to 419.<\/p>\n

Too Much Depth<\/h5>\n

Despite winning three relays and finishing second in the other two, Cal couldn\u2019t quite catch Stanford\u2019s predominantly underclassmen team, which placed among the top three in only three of the five relays, including a first-place finish in the 800 free relay in the meet\u2019s first event.<\/p>\n
