ISHOF is proud to announce that this year\u2019s Master of Ceremonies for the\u00a0<\/span>2019 Induction Class<\/span><\/a>\u00a0of Honorees is\u00a0Dara Torres<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dara Torres is a twelve-time Olympic medalist and former world record-holder. Dara was the first swimmer to represent the United States in five Olympic Games<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(1984, 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2008), and, at the age of 41, the oldest swimmer to earn a place on the U.S. Olympic team. \u00a0At the\u00a0<\/span>2008 Summer Olympics<\/span>, she competed in three events, the 50-meter\u00a0<\/span>freestyle<\/span>, 4\u00d7100m <\/span>medley relay<\/span>, and 4\u00d7100m freestyle relay, winning\u00a0<\/span>silver medals<\/span>\u00a0in each event.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has a total of twelve Olympic medals (four gold, four silver, and four bronze), and is one of only three women with the most Olympic swimming medals.\u00a0 \u00a0Dara Torres has won at least one medal in each of the five Olympics in which she has competed, making her one of only a handful of Olympians to earn medals in five different Games.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her impressive performance in Beijing and her attempt at the 2012 London Olympic Games<\/a> has inspired many older athletes to consider re-entering competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

A composed commentator, guest host and strong interviewee, she has appeared on such shows as Fox News, ESPN, CNN, Piers Morgan Tonight, Today Show, Good Morning America, Kelly and Regis, and many others. Additionally, Dara Torres was the first female athlete ever to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and in 2009, won the ESPY award for \u201cBest Comeback.\u201d To add to Dara\u2019s accolades, she was also named one of the \u201cTop Female Athletes of the Decade\u201d by Sports Illustrated Magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dara lives in South Florida and over the years she has remained active with\u00a0programs to promote swimming and the\u00a0welfare\u00a0of swimmers.<\/span><\/p>\n
